Delaware County has received confirmation from the New York State Department of Financial Services that they will deploy staff to man a one-day resource center to assist Delaware County residents impacted by the storms on August 9th, this Saturday August 17, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Public Safety Building located at 280 Phoebe Lane in Delhi, Shelly Johnson Bennett of the Delaware County Planning Department told WCDO News what those who have had damage should bring:

In addition to the resource center, residents and business owners can contact the Department’s Disaster Hotline at 800-339-1759, the hotline will have extended evening hours until 8:00 PM through this Friday night. The National Weather Service has now confirmed a record setting 28 tornadoes hit New York State this year, following a tornado confirmation in St. Lawrence County over the past weekend. the previous record was 25 in 1992, more than 20 of the tornadoes touched down in the month of July.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that an additional $200 million is now available to school districts and bus operators for zero-emission school buses through the second installment of funding from the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act. The funding provides support for the purchase of electric buses, charging infrastructure or fleet electrification planning. To date, 250 districts have started developing these plans, and more than 100 additional districts are in the process of applying for fleet planning in coordination with their local BOCES districts. School bus fleets seeking assistance should go to schoolbus@nyserda.ny.gov.

The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the ramp from westbound Interstate 86/State Route 17 to southbound Interstate 81 at Exit 2 in Kirkwood, will be closed on weekday mornings for approximately one week to facilitate an ongoing bridge rehabilitation project. 41 year old Rasheed Crawford of Binghamton pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Robbery in Broome County Court. On April 8th, at the Mirabito Service Station on Court Street in Binghamton, and on April 10th, at EZ Food Mart on East Main Street in Endicott, Crawford forcibly stole lottery tickets and cash from store clerks while brandishing what looked like a handgun. Crawford is scheduled to be sentenced on November 8th, to 8 years in State Prison followed by three years of post-release supervision.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was in Cooperstown Tuesday, he announced that he has secured over $17 Million Dollars in federal COVID-19 relief funding for Bassett Healthcare Network through a provision in the American Rescue Plan. Schumer said the funding will cover costs associated with emergency protective measures and increased staffing, due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
