The National Weather Service confirmed at least 1 tornado in the City of Rome, and 3 likely tornadoes in Hamilton County. 1 death was attributed to yesterday’s severe storms in Canastota, in Madison County.

NYSEG reported that about 3400 customers in the WCDO Listening area were without power this afternoon, following 2 days of severe thunderstorms that led to downed trees & power lines. Crews are working to restore the power as quickly as possible.

The application period is now open for New York State’s entry-level law enforcement civil service exam. The exam is for interested, qualified applicants seeking a position throughout the Empire State at the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Office of State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the State University of New York. Qualified candidates can apply online at cs.ny.gov/police until 11:59 pm. EST on August 14, 2024, to take the exam, scheduled for the fall.

NYSEG Reports that about 4300 customers were without power from last night’s storms, crews will be out to try to get power restored as quickly as possible.

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for all of New York due to the severe weather on Tuesday. The Mohawk Valley experienced significant damage, including a confirmed tornado in Rome at around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service will be conducting a study of the storm-damaged areas today. Motorists are advised to Monitor 511 for the latest road closures.
