Millions of residents of the Northeast States, including New York, have had severe weather events, with flooding, damaged buildings & destroyed infrastructure, bring inter-state commerce to a sever slow down, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said today that grant money is available quicker than FEMA funds, & local Governments should apply for the “PROTECT” Resiliency grants as soon as possible:

Senator Gillibrand said that more needs to be done to help New Yorkers deal with increasing severe weather events, as improvements have been slow since Hurricane Sandy over 10 years ago.

State Police are investigating a report of a credit card skimmer found at the Norwich Walmart on July 8th. Troopers responded after a skimmer was located and removed from 1 of the registers, employees checked the registers after seeing news reports of skimmers at different Walmart locations throughout the State. An investigation revealed that 3 individuals installed a skimmer on register number 3 on July 3 at approximately 11:40am. The suspects were 2 white males & a white female, 2 of the suspects distracted the cashier while 1 of the men installed the skimmer. Anyone who shopped at the Norwich Walmart between July 3rd & the 8th, should check their credit statements for any fraudulent charges.

State Police arrested 29 year old Reinaldo Perez-Granado of Glendale, for Unlawful Surveillance, the investigation revealed that while at Chenango Valley State Park, Perez Granado entered a bathroom, reached over the stall and took photos of the child while a child was changing, the child alerted their parent and provide a detailed description of the man, the parent alerted a lifeguard, Park Rangers then State Police. Perez Granado was arrested and was processed, he was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61 year old John Brooking of Pennsylvania for Criminal trespass & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. On July 7th, Deputies received a complaint of a trespass in the Town of Sidney, Brooking had refused to leave a property and residence after an altercation, Brooking was arrested, & was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Sidney court at a later date.

The Broome County Special Investigations Task Force executed a search warrant in Kirkwood, they arrested 27 year old Chandler Hmurcik of Kirkwood and 29 year old Desiree Buckley of Castle Creek on a variety of counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, & criminally using drug paraphernalia, Police seized methamphetamine, Fentanyl Pills, Scales, and packaging materials used for weighing, and packaging narcotics for sale, both were taken to Central Arraignment at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, Hmurcik was released, while Buckley remains at the Correctional Facility due to an outstanding warrant with the Binghamton Police Department.

The Guilford Town Board will hold a Public Hearing at 7:00 PM tonight at the Guilford Town Hall at 223 Marble Road, for the purpose of hearing public comments on the proposed Unsafe Structures Law.
