Governor Cuomo today signed the Equal Pay for Equal work bill into law today in New York City, prior to the parade for the US Women’s World Cup Championship Soccer Team in New York City:

Cuomo said that the bill will also ban employers from asking prospective employees about their salary history.

Delhi police arrested 2 men for allegedly breaking into a village home. 20 year old James Bares of Great Neck and 20 year old Nicholas St. John of Trumbull, Connecticut were arrested on June 29 after police received a report of a burglary at a Main Street residence, Both suspects were charged with 2nd degree burglary, criminal mischief, petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, they were arraigned in the town of Kortright Court and sent to the Delaware County Jail on $3,000 cash bail pending future court action.

A permit to move Woodstock 50 to Vernon Downs hit another obstacle Tuesday, when the Town of Vernon & Oneida County officials denied a permit for the concert at Vernon Downs, because they had failed to supply mandated information in their application, had no specific plans for law enforcement or for emergency services, and because the application was filed too close to the time of the planned event. Woodstock 50 was originally scheduled to be held in Watkins Glen, several issues & lawsuits kept the concert from being held there. Time is running out as the concert was scheduled to be held August 16th through the 18th this year, on the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival in Bethel in 1969.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old Joshua Gardepe of East Branch on charges of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Speeding, and inadequate headlamps. The arrest followed a traffic stop on State Route 357 in the Town of Franklin. Gardepe was released on tickets and is to appear in Town of Franklin Court on July 25th at 6:00 PM.

The Dormitory Authority of New York & the State University of New York has begun work to renovate SUNY Oneonta’s Huntington Hall, at a cost of $20 million. Huntington Hall will be modernized and reconfigured to provide additional bedroom space for approximately 80 students. All bedrooms and bathrooms will be renovated, complete with new, contemporary finishes. A 6,000 square foot, four-story addition, which will include a fitness room, community kitchens, and an elevator, will also be constructed. In addition, $1.2 million in further renovations are being made to SUNY Oneonta’s Grant, Sherman, and Tobey Halls. The work is part of the nearly $61.2 million in upgrades to SUNY campuses throughout New York State being completed by DASNY during the summer months, which will be ready in time for students to begin the fall semester. Construction is expected to be completed in July 2020.

A petition has been set up asking the Sidney Town Board to expand commercial zoning to save Muddy River Farm Brewery, after they received a Cease & Desist order. Muddy River appealed the decision & lost, they are asking the Town of Sidney extend their Commercial Zoning to the facility, if that fails they would be forced to close on July 24th. A petition for local residents to sign is available at change.org.
45-year-old Thomas Sutton of Sidney was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fire on July 3rd at the Econo Lodge in the Town of Dickinson. Sutton was charged with arson and reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and obstructing governmental administration & he faces court action shortly.

A Public Meeting on new Upper Delaware River Policies will be held in Hancock this morning, where Representatives from the Delaware River Basin Commission, State DEC, The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the DRBC Subcommittee on Ecological Flows will discuss new approaches to control high water temperatures and reduce erratic water releases in the Upper Delaware River tail waters. The meeting will begin at 10:30 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Friends of the Upper Delaware River office at 158 East Front Street, Hancock.

The Sidney Community Band Announced their 2019 Don Clayton Memorial Trailside Concert Series will be held at the Pavilion at Keith Clark Park at 6:30 PM on Wednesday nights, starting July 10th with the Sidney Community Band. Shows will be held each Wednesday night through August 21st, all concerts free and open to the public. More information is available at the Sidney Community Band Facebook page.
HeatSmart Southern Tier is hosting an information session for local residents about clean heating and cooling systems in Sidney. HeatSmart Southern Tier representatives will discuss how residents can take advantage of tax incentives and new technologies to efficiently heat and cool their homes. The free event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Awestruck Ciders in the Sidney Industrial Park.
