Governor Cuomo has signed a new law that will ensure funds received by the state from the settlement with opioid manufacturers, distributors, dispensers, consultants, chain pharmacies, or other entities responsible for the opioid crisis, will be deposited into an opioid settlement fund that will support treatment, recovery, and abatement efforts. The legislation was passed unanimously earlier this month by both the State Senate & State Assembly.

State Police reported today that Trooper Ryan Thorp has been released from the hospital, Trooper Thorp was shot June 23rd while when he responded to a domestic incident in Deposit, 44 year old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit was charged with Attempted 1st degree murder for that shooting.

The Unadilla Valley School District Board of Education has hired Brenton Taylor as the new District Superintendent. Taylor replaces long time Superintendent Bob Mackey, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

The ARC of Delaware County is seeking to fill a variety of positions, and will be holding job fairs in the coming weeks. Job Fairs will be held on July 9th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday July 10th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Friday July 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday July 24th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at their location on State Highway 10 in Walton.

The Otsego County Household Hazardous Waste Days will be held in August this year. Collections will be held on Friday August 20th at the Unadilla Town Barn & Saturday August 21st at the Meadow Office Complex in Cooperstown. The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the “Grand Re-Opening” of businesses after the recent removal of COVID pandemic restrictions, with a series of ceremonial ribbon cuttings all over the County, Chamber President Ray Pucci explains:

Pucci said that his team will start the series Saturday in Roxbury, next Tuesday in Stamford & Wednesday in Sidney, Walton & Delhi, Thursday in Margaretville, Fleischmann’s, Arkville & Hobart & they will conclude the series on Friday in Hancock & Andes.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a logging complaint on June 21st and arrested 46 year-old James Amato of Downsville on a Bench Warrant issued by Broome County Court, for failure to appear to a Grand Jury Indictment. Amato was indicted in February on various drug related charges; he was turned over to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division for arraignment.

The Village of New Berlin is hosting a ribbon cutting today at 1:00 PM for the opening of the new firehouse and Chobani Community Center. The new firehouse replaces a 50 year old structure, with 6 garage bays, offices and separate rooms for gear, meetings, training and storage. The Chobani Community Center contains a kitchen area and large gathering space for the hosting of various events.
