State Police arrested 47 year old Jason Nugent of Vernon for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, after a trooper initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle speeding on State Highway 23 in the town of Plymouth. The trooper learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Utica, Nugent was arrested & was arraigned and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26th. Nugent was then turned over to New Hartford Police regarding another case.

State Police arrested 28 year old Benjamin Truitt of Marathon Tuesday for Grand Larceny. Truitt was arrested after an investigation of a report of a jet ski and trailer stolen in April from outside a residence in Marathon. Truitt allegedly hooked the trailer and jet ski to a vehicle and removed it from the property then putting it in the backyard of a residence on Front Street. The trailer and jet ski were ultimately returned to the owner. Troopers were another call Tuesday when they recognized Truitt, he was taken into custody, processed & was issued an appearance ticket to the town of Marathon Court on July 12th.

Republican Paul Battisti has won the primary in Broome County for the party nomination for District Attorney, over current DA Mike Korchak. Korchak announced that he would not run as a 3rd party candidate like he did tin the previous election 4 years ago & defeated republican Steve Cornwell. Former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan announced that he will run on the Democratic Party Line for District Attorney in November.

State Troopers that are specifically trained as child car seat technicians will be conducting 2 upcoming events to check the safety of child car safety seats. Troopers will be available at two locations; Saturday, July 8, from 10am – 6pm at Glimmerglass State Park , 1528 County Road 31 Cooperstown, & Sunday, July 9, from 10am – 6pm at the Chenango Fire Company – 86 Castle Creek Road, Binghamton, appointments are not required but are suggested by calling 561-7604.

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society will host the 2nd in a series called “Let’s Talk Oneonta Baseball” on Tuesday, July 11th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the 183 Main Street. Special guest Helen Rees is the daughter of the late Jim Konstanty on Oneonta, who was the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 1950 for the Philadelphia Phillies. Delaware County Board of Elections confirmed the Primary Election Results from Tuesday. In the Republican Primary for Distrit Attorney, Shawn Smith recevied 1,684 votes, while Joe Ermeti received 1,088, there were 2 write in votes.

24 year old Spencer Cummings of West Edmeston was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies, for 2nd degree assault, Strangulation, Menacing & Unlawful Imprisonment following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Norwich. Cummings is accused of assaulting and choking a female victim, he was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the custody of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division on $150,000 cash bail. Cummings is due back in the Town of Norwich Court on a later date.
