50 Year old Scott Mitchell of Binghamton has been apprehended by law Enforcement in the state of Florida. Mitchell was located in Daytona Beach, he is wanted for questioning regarding the murders of 58 year old Daniel McCloe & 55 year old Marshall VanOven, who were found in a Binghamton apartment February 5th after they were reported missing. The Autopsy concluded that the cause of death was murder for both men, Mitchell faces extradition from Volusia County back to Binghamton shortly.

Robert Colson pleaded guilty in Chenango County Court to burglary charges for unlawfully entering 2 businesses, he admitted to the crimes prior to the start of a trial. Colson will be sentenced to state prison for 3 to 6 years as part of a plea bargain arrangement, he will return to County Court on April 11 for sentencing. Colson was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies in August of 2023 for allegedly breaking into retail establishments to steal tobacco products.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 53 year old Antoinette Milano of Guilford for Grand Larceny. Milano is accused of stealing a vehicle from a Westmoreland dealership in November, Milano was released on her own recognizance and is set to appear in Westmoreland Town Court at a later date.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee, announced legislation to cap the cost of prescription drugs for individuals and families with private insurance:

Gillibrand said that a large number of constituents have contacted her office about capping prescription costs, however President Trump has been reversing health care initiatives and she hopes that he will listen to the will of the people & sign the legislation.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Michael Dye of South New Berlin following an investigation into a violation of a no-contact temporary order of protection. Dye allegedly contacted the protected party, he was located and arrested in the Town of Morris, he was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance and he was charged with Criminal Contempt & criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and was processed and turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

Measles cases are rising in the U.S. with infections confirmed in at least five states so far this year, including Alaska, Georgia, New York, Rhode Island and Texas, mostly among individuals not vaccinated for measles, according to the CDC. Measles is one of the most contagious diseases known to humans, as 1 infected patient can spread measles up to nine out of 10 susceptible close contacts, especially if they are not wearing a mask or not vaccinated.

The New York State’s Division of Consumer Protection is warning New Yorkers about romance scams with Valentine’s Day coming later this week. These scams occur when a criminal uses a fake identity and romantic interest to prey on emotions and trust, manipulate or steal from a victim. In 2024, New Yorkers reported over $25 million lost in connection with romance scams. Effective Wednesday, February 19, a new state law goes into effect to help fight fraud on online dating platforms, it is designed to strengthen protections for state consumers who have received and responded to messages from members who have been banned from an online dating platform due to fraud or violation of terms of use.
