State Police announced that 11-year-old Jariah Durgala is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle on State Route 7 and Frederick Street in the City of Binghamton. The investigation revealed that Durgala was crossing State Route 7, in an active work zone when he was struck by an SUV. Medical personnel, State Police and Binghamton City Police were all on scene within minutes of the accident; he was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City & was air-lifted to Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse. The investigation is ongoing. No tickets have been issued at this time.

The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce is doing a Toy Drive for Toys for Tots. New unwrapped toys may be dropped off in the barrels that have been placed at Bob’s Diner, NBT Bank, SFCU and the Bainbridge Town Hall. The Annual Toys For Tots train is scheduled to stop in Bainbridge on Saturday December 1st at 12:00 Noon.

Governor Cuomo today announced all schools in New York State have adopted plans to end “meal shaming” of students who do not have money for lunch. This is the latest success in the Governor’s “No Student Goes Hungry” program, which addresses food insecurity by expanding access to free breakfast and farm-fresh foods as well as ensuring all students have access to school meals without fear of shame. The program also includes $1.5 million to expand the successful Farm-to-School program. All school plans have been posted on the schools’ websites.

Because of the forecast, the Family Halloween Celebration at the Sidney Central School District hosted by the Sidney Community Foundation has been moved to the high school gymnasium on Wednesday, October 31. The event runs from 5-7 p.m. The movie will be running from 5-6:30 p.m., with the parade to start at 6:30 p.m. Trick-or-treating is every 15 minutes starting at 5:15 p.m. Some of the activities for the night include: An inflatable obstacle course, Face painting, There is no cost to the event.
