With Election Day less than 2 weeks away, WCDO has been interviewing candidates for key area races. In the 19th Congressional District race, WCDO News asked Democrat Josh Riley & Republican Marc Molinaro to comments on their top priorities should they win the election, first we hear from Josh Riley:

The 19th Congressional District has changed substantially, even since the recent election where Molinaro lost to Democrat Pat Ryan, both men are running again against different opponents on November 8th in a District previously served by current Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado.

State Police are continuing to investigate an incident where a woman showed up at Chenango Memorial Hospital Friday with a gunshot wound, the woman was later transferred to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Chenango Memorial Hospital & 2 area school district were locked-down at the time, there was no threat to the public & the investigation is ongoing.

Assemblyman Joe Angelino & State Senator Peter Oberacker and local officials unveiled the newly-named SP4 Richard F. Walton, Jr. Memorial Highway in Gilbertsville. A bill sponsored by the lawmakers renamed a portion of State Highway 51 after the fallen Vietnam War medic, who was raised in the Town of Butternuts, he served in the 326th Medical Battalion, 101 Airborne, American Division of the U.S. Army. On February 6 1970, Walton lost his life in a helicopter crash while serving his country as a medic.

The State DMV announced that in order to take domestic flights, you will either need a valid passport, or a new “Real ID” from the DMV. The deadline to do upgrade is May 3rd, 2023, more information is available at dmv.ny.gov.

A.M. NEWS Wednesday 10-26-22

$48.7 million in federal highway safety grants have been awarded to 580 programs across New York State. The purpose of this grant program is to provide funds to local, state and not-for-profit agencies for projects that improve highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes. Southern Tier Counties will receive Southern Tier $305,755.00 in grants.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is again participating in the Annual Toys For Tots Campaign. Chamber President Ray Pucci told WCDO News that they are looking for area businesses to be collection site for toys:

Any Delaware County Business that is interested in becoming a ‘Toys for Tots’ Collection Site, should contact the Chamber soon at 607-746-2281. In December, Chamber staff will pick up the toys and deliver them to Delaware Opportunities, to provide distribution of the gifts to Delaware County families.

The Chenango County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting date is today, at Fred’s Inn, Route 12, Norwich. the event begins at 6:30PM.
