The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 40 year old Mitchell McComas of Binghamton was sentenced to 1 1/2 to 3 years in state prison for stealing a truck and a television. McComas admitted that in January of 2022, he stole a 2020 Ford F-150 truck from Hallstead, Pennsylvania and drove it to Best Buy in Vestal, where he stole a $300+ television, he pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession, he is a repeat offender who was convicted of Grand Larceny in 2018.

The New York State Department of Civil Service announced that the application period is now open for New York’s entry-level investigative civil service exams. The exams, which are used to fill titles in several state agencies, will be held as in-person written exams in April 2023. Qualified candidates can apply online until 11:59pm on Wednesday, February 22nd, More information is available at cs.ny.gov/jobseeker.

The Gilbertsville Improvement Society has an online auction through Lambrecht Auction of Bainbridge. 80 items are offered, Those interested in viewing or bidding on auction items may visit lambrechtauction.com or www.laibids.com Bidding closes on February 16th. An in-person preview of auction items will be held on February 11th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Gilbert Block on Commercial Street. The auction is raising funds for maintenance and structural improvements of the Gilbert Block.

Attorney General Letitia James along with the Department of Justice & a coalition of 8 states allege that Google has engaged in a 15-year, organized campaign so it could obtain outsized influence at all levels of the ad tech industry, and has used its power to reduce competition. Through this lawsuit, the coalition of states are seeking to have Google sell off various ad tech tools to restore a competitive balance in digital advertising, other states involved in the lawsuit include California, Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Hancock, at 86 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 19-year-old Jaden Whitfield of Hilton, A check of Whitfield’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended. Whitfield was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and failing to surrender NYS License to DMV, Unlicensed Operator, Speeding among several other lesser charges, Whitfield was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.
