Governor Hochul outlined plans for a middle class tax cut and an inflation refund in her State of the State Address yesterday in Albany:

The Governor is also call for an increase in the Child Tax Credit for pre-school & early Elementary school students over the next 2 years. Those plans will require legislative approval this session.

Property tax levy growth for New York’s school districts and 10 cities will remain capped at 2% for the fourth year in a row, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with certain exceptions. The law also includes provisions that allow school districts and municipalities to override the cap. DiNapoli’s office calculated the inflation factor at just under 3%, The cap affects 675 school districts and 10 small cities with fiscal years starting July 1st.

46 year old Andre Gilliam of the Town of Chenango was sentenced to 5.5 years in State Prison followed by 3 years of post-release supervision after being found guilty by a Broome County Jury of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. On November 7, 2023, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant on Castle Creek Road, Town of Chenango, they seized fentanyl, a cutting agent, a digital scale and nearly $4000 cash from suspected drug sales.

The State DEC Forest Rangers conducted 362 search and rescue missions, extinguished 122 wildfires covering nearly 6,500 acres, participated in 60 prescribed fires that served to rejuvenate more than 1,155 acres of land, and worked on cases that resulted in more than 1,200 tickets and arrests in 2024. On December 14th in the Otsego County Town of Plainfield, forest rangers discovered pallets & construction waste in the Plainfield State Forest, as well as a serial number on a discarded freezer, which was traced back to an unidentified restaurant, last week, Rangers determined who was responsible for the illegal dumping and issued a ticket for depositing debris on State land. The subject is also required to remove the debris.

35 year old Jeffrey Lane was sentenced as a second violent felony offender in Broome County Court to 5 years in State Prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for 2nd degree Robbery. On March 10, 2024, Lane confronted an Uber driver in Binghamton, Lane pulled the Uber driver from the vehicle and stole it, leading law enforcement on a high speed pursuit before being apprehended.

State Police at Troop C are looking for 2 suspects that burglarized a building at the Endwell Greens Golf Course on January 11 and took various tools. 1 suspect appears to be an older male with glasses and the second person is covered up. A Senate confirmation hearing will take place Thursday for North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be the ambassador to the United Nations. Her hearing is scheduled for 10:30 am. Thursday, If she is confirmed, a special election will be held for her seat in 21st District Congressional seat.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Kyle Packer of Edmeston, for Criminal Mischief, following an investigation into the report of a damaged property, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Edmeston Court at a later date. Packer was arrested last October for violating of a Court Order of Protection, where he was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Burglary plus 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, he also faced similar charges in July of 2023.
