The Sidney Village Board met last night, & there were questions regarding an additional charge added to the water bill starting September 1st. Sidney Village Mayor Ray Baker told WCDO News that the village had to find a new water source after years of manganese in the old supply, and was ordered by the DEC to correct the problem, there was state money & loans available to help pay for it, which led to the rate increase:

Baker said that they hope to have the new well for the village on line by the end of the year, he said that anyone who would like more information can contact the Sidney village office & set up a meeting with him & others involved in the project.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54 year old Stephen Kiss of Davenport for Criminal Contempt and Harassment following an Order of Protection Violation incident, in the Town of Davenport. On August 14th, Deputies responded to the Charlotte Creek Mobile Home Park, Deputies found that the victim had been harassed by Kiss while an order of protection was in place, On August 19th, Deputies arrested Kiss, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

The State Department of Labor today released local area unemployment rates for July, the State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.2% to 4.3% in July, Locally, Chenango County had 3.7% Unemployment, Delaware County had 4.5% & Otsego County 4.3% in July.

The United State Postal Inspection Service is warning Americans of a new attempt for hackers to use your own device to steal your identity. There are a variety of messages these scammers will send to get you to click on a link & that will lead to the hackers retrieving information, such as account usernames and passwords, Social Security number, date of birth, credit and debit card numbers, PIN Number or other sensitive information, to report a suspected suspicious text, send all of the pertinent information by email to spam@uspis.gov.

Former Congressman George Santos pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, he could face 7 years in prison under the terms of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Santos is scheduled to be sentenced on February 7th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 75 year old Wayne Sparling of Walton for Aggravated Harassment. On July 23rd, Deputies received a complaint of a dispute between neighbors, they requested an Arrest Warrant from the Town of Walton Court. On August 7th, Deputies received an Arrest Warrant and arrested Sparling, he was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment Processing.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation that allows New York’s small craft manufacturers of spirits & cider, to ship directly to consumers. The new law takes effect in 90 days, allowing consumers to purchase New York’s craft spirits & cider and have it shipped to their home.

Chenango County Health Department will hold a rabies clinic for Dogs, Cats & Ferrets today at Baille Lumber in Smyrna from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Pre-Registration is required by calling 607-337-1673, a $5 donation is suggested. Otsego County Public Health is also holding a vaccine clinic for dogs, cats & Ferrets at Neahwa Park in Oneonta today from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
