Governor Cuomo today signed legislation criminalizing the manufacture, sale, transport and possession of firearms and major components of such weapons that are undetectable by a metal detector, including 3D printed guns and expanding laws requiring the safe storage of firearms. This legislation builds on the Red Flag Bill signed in February that prevents individuals who show signs of being a threat to themselves or others from purchasing or possessing a firearm and it builds on legislation Governor Cuomo signed Monday extending the background check waiting period and banning bump stocks.

Governor Cuomo today signed legislation to allow state and local candidates to use campaign funds to pay for child care expenses, enabling more parents to run for public office.  Specifically, the bill amends state election law to allow campaign funds to be used to pay child care expenses that are “incurred in the campaign or in the execution of the duties of public office or party position.” The bill’s provisions are effective in 60 days.  In New York, about 33 percent of the state’s executive and legislative officials are women, compared with a national average of 29 percent of state executive and legislative officials, according to the Center for American Women and Politics.

The Susquehanna SPCA announced that they will break ground on their new animal shelter on Saturday August 24th.  The New Shelter will be about 1 mile north of the current facility on State route 28 near Cooperstown.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego and Chenango counties last week.  13 retail stores were checked and all of the stores were found to be in compliance and did not sell alcohol to the underage operative.  Among the compliant stores were: Mirabito Quickway in Sidney & Franklin,   Snake Bite Liquors of Afton& B & W Wines & Liquors in Bainbridge.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 58-year-old Karl Heidenreich of Franklin for Criminal Impersonation; following a civilian report that Heidenreich falsely pretended that he was a Police Officer.  Heidenreich was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at Franklin Town Court at a later date.
