State Police responded at about 5:00 AM today to State Highway 7 in Oneonta for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. A preliminary investigation indicates that 40 year old Amber Joy of Oneonta was walking in the roadway and was struck by a vehicle, she did not survive. The crash remains under investigation, the operator of the vehicle has been cooperative with Investigators. The roadway was reopened just before 9:30 am.

30 year old Charles Walsh of Sidney was sentenced to 5 ½ years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court. Walsh admitted that he possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 6, 2024, with intent to sell, Walsh must submit a sample of his DNA to the State’s DNA data-bank and pay $375.00 dollars, he was remanded back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin his sentence.

40 year old Peter Puglisi of Sidney pleaded guilty to Attempted Burglary in Delaware County Court. An Indictment charged Puglisi with 3rd degree Burglary for unlawfully entering a storage unit in the Village of Sidney on March 24th to steal items located inside, Sidney Police responded, they followed a set of foot tracks leading away from unit, through a creek, and located Puglisi who was wearing the shoes having a tread that matched prints from the storage unit. After conferencing the case, Puglisi pleaded guilty he will likely be sentenced to 1 year in jail & he will also be required to pay restitution in the amount of $3,888.

State Police responded to a crash on I-86 where 4 people sustained minor injuries, including one DOT worker. An investigation revealed that 4 vehicles were traveling east on I-86 in Windsor when traffic slowed for a construction vehicle that was exiting the lane of travel and going into the construction area. A tractor trailer was unable to stop and rear ended a car, which was then pushed into a parked DOT vehicle within the construction zone and also another car traveling in front of the 1st vehicle, 4 people were transported to Wilson Medical Center for minor injuries.

State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for June 2024. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% in June 2024. Locally, Chenango County had 3.1% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% & Otsego County 3.8% in June.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that storm damage in Lee in Oneida County is consistent with a tornado., as they continue to survey damage in recent weeks across several upstate counties. The total count of tornadoes in New York for July has reached 20.

46 year old Grady Hunter of Binghamton was arrested on Sunday for 2nd degree Attempted Murder & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, following an investigation into a shots fired incident in Johnson City. On July 17, Johnson City Police investigation revealed that Hunter went to the residence of his former girlfriend and engaged in a verbal altercation with a male, Hunter allegedly fired the gun into the apartment and fled the scene. Hunter was located Sunday night & was taken into custody without incident.
