Governor Cuomo today announced DICK’S Sporting Goods will invest $100 million to build a regional distribution facility at the Broome County Corporate Park in the Town of Conklin. DICK’S investment is creating 466 full-time jobs over the next five years in the Southern Tier. Construction on the 650,000-square-foot facility will begin next month and is scheduled for completion in early 2018.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, along with the Massachusetts & Maryland Attorney General offices announced lawsuits today against Volkswagen and its affiliates for the automakers’ sale of diesel automobiles that were fitted with illegal “defeat devices” that concealed illegal amounts of harmful emissions and then allegedly attempting to cover-up their behavior. The defeat devices took the form of computer software designed to ensure that a vehicle’s emissions system performed properly only during emissions testing. On the road, the defeat device switched off or scaled back the vehicles’ emissions systems, the diesel vehicle emmitted harmful pollutants linked to numerous respiratory diseases up to 40 times those limits.

The Sidney Elks Lodge will present the 7th annual Looking Back Car Show on Saturday August 6th at the Elks Lodge on River Street in Sidney. Spokesman Mark Little said that there are trophies for classes that will appeal to young & old alike:

The Sidney Elks Car Show is free for spectators; there will also be a chicken Barbecue during the car show, which runs from 9:00 to 3:00 on August 6th.

Chenango county fair returns to Norwich August 9th to the 14th, fair spokesperson Mary Weidman told WCDO News about new attractions this year:

Weidman said that Coleman Brothers would be back with rides on the midway at the Chenango County Fair Grounds, the midway opens each day at 1:00 PM.

The Oneonta Common Council will hold their next regular meeting tonight. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM at City hall in the Common Council Chambers. The Council will see a presentation from Sandy Mathes at Otsego County IDA regarding the Market Street Project.

The Sidney K-mart has been closed today due to an electrical issue. Store Manager Lori Lang told WCDO News that the store will likely remain closed today, as they wait for a repair crew to arrive & fix the underground issue.

Congressman Chris Gibson has endorsed Republican John Faso to replace him in the 19th Congressional district in November. Faso faces Democrat Zephyr Teachout for Gibson’s seat in the General Election this year.
