Attorney General Barbara Underwood issued a consumer alert to federal student loan borrowers about a new temporary expansion of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness, where borrowers who were turned down for Loan Forgiveness can now apply for reconsideration, based on an expanded list of qualifying repayment plans. Last Friday, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a Click It or Ticket/Seatbelt Mobilization enforcement traffic check point on County Highway 7 in the Town of Colchester. Deputies issued a total of 23 traffic tickets for offenses ranging from operating without a seat belt, uninspected motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation speed not reasonable and prudent, and driving while ability impaired by drugs. 29 year old Andre Fenner of Bronx was arrested for Driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator, and unlawful possession of marijuana, among other charges, he will appear in town of Colchester court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22 year old Ashley Newkirk of Roscoe for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, Newkirk was charged during a traffic and safety checkpoint conducted by Deputies in the Town of Colchester. Newkirk was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The Oneonta Common Council will hold their next regular meeting this evening at City Hall. Among the items on the agenda this evening is the potential purchase of the Westcott Lot on Main Street for possible future development. Tonight’s meeting begins at 7:00 PM.

The Greater Afton Chamber of Commerce is seeking sponsorship for holes for this year’s fundraising Golf Tournament at the Afton Golf Club on September 16th. More information is available at 348-3719, this year’s efforts will go to the Afton Community Theater.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 40 year old Brent Nichols of Walton for DWI and Aggravated DWI with a BAC of more than 0.18%. Deputies were told that Nichols left his home in a vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. He was released on appearance tickets and scheduled to appear before the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

On Saturday, Senator Fred Akshar partnered with representatives from UHS, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, the Johnson City Police Department and the Southern Tier AIDS Program for a “Shed the Meds” prescription turn-in event at the Oakdale Mall. Volunteers collected over 490 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter medication, including 334 bottles of prescription narcotics and other controlled substances with an estimated street value of over $50,000. Community members participated in free Narcan training held at the UHS Stay Healthy Center, each trainee received a free Narcan kit.
