The Annual Ron Palmer Memorial Scholarship Fund will be hold their 3rd annual fundraising show, with a variety of local musicians to raise money for those seeking careers in Music, long time area musician and organizer Bruce Beadle explains:

Beadle said that Palmer was a local jazz guitarist who played with Harry Chapin back in the 70’s, he passed away a few years ago after battling cancer. Tickets for the show on July 15th at the Norwich American legion from 12:00 Noon to 7:00 PM, Tickets are available at Nazzitto’s Liquors, The Blarney Stone or at the door.

Delhi Telephone Company, or DTC, is working to wrap up their work, in order to offer their Internet, Phone & TV Services to Walton Village Residents, Jason Miller of DTC Explains:

DTC was part of the state’s plan a few years ago to get Internet Services to under-served rural areas, then have since planned to get infrastructure set up to include villages around the region to offer Fiber Optic high speed internet, with plans in the work to get into the Village of Sidney in the next few years.

State Comptroller’s office announced the results of an audit of the Oxford Academy and Central School District. District officials did not comply with competitive bidding requirements for 33 of 35 transportation contracts totaling $322,056, fuel credit card purchases resulting totaling $16,258 did not comply with district procedures, and that vehicle repair invoices and parts ordered by the vehicle maintenance and repair vendor were not reviewed to verify that the parts ordered were for district vehicles.

The Town of Sidney Highway Department announced that Back River Road will be closed from Rte 357 to Exit 10 starting June 26th thru June 28th. It will also be closed July 5th and July 6th for paving, area motorists are advised to use other local roads during the work periods.

Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigation Division received information that inmate Derek Wignall of Hancock repetitively violated a County Court Order of Protection while incarcerated at the Delaware County Jail, prior to his release from the Correctional Facility. At the completion of their investigation, Officers located and arrested Wignall in the Village of Hancock, he is charged with Aggravated Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. Wignall is scheduled to re- appear at Delhi Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The Oneonta Common Council held a special meeting last week, they voted to demolish the municipal parking garage, new plans call for the building of a new garage and possibly re-imagining the area into a new transit hub, Consulting firm Wendell Companies reported to the council that the whole project could cost up to $30 Million Dollars.
