A Public meeting has been called for Thursday night for residents of the both the Village & Town of Unadilla, regarding lower cost energy through the Community Choice Aggregation. Unadilla Village Mayor Dave Welch explains:

The meeting will be held at the Unadilla Fire Station Thursday at 7:00 PM, residents are encouraged to attend, and bring recent electricity bills.

Delaware County Deputies arrested 48-year-old Laura Fagan of Harpersfield Monday on 1 count of Promoting prison contraband. Fagan was being processed into the corrections facility on a separate charge, Corrections Officers found narcotic pills in her personal belongings. Fagan was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Delhi Court.

State Lawmakers are considering legislation to authorize people with end of life illnesses to request life ending drugs from their physician. The proposal calls for 2 doctors to certify that a patient’s illness is terminal, the measure has been brought up in previous years in the state legislature, but it has never come up for a vote. 5 state currently allow for terminally ill patients to request life ending drugs from a physician.

Fallen police officers from all over New York State are being remembered in Albany today, a Memorial at the Empire State Plaza. 40 more names are being added to the Memorial, 38 of the 40 lost their lives after becoming ill while serving at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade center in New York City in 2001.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 28-year-old Hasan Siddiqi of Franklin last Wednesday on charges of Operating a motor vehicle without a headlight, failure to keep right, unlicensed operator, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree. Deputies say this arrest is a result of a traffic stop on State Highway 23 in the Town of Walton. Siddiqi was arraigned in front of Judge Hall at Walton Village Court and was released on his own recognizance.

New York state is accepting public comment on new learning standards that will replace the controversial “Common Core”. The revised standards will be presented the Board of Regents today, and public comments will be accepted through June 2nd. State Education Department officials released the standards last week following a 2-year process that gathered input from the public, educators & assorted experts. The Board of Regents is expected to adopt the new standards in June.

Legislation is being introduced in the state Assembly & Senate that would prohibit the state’s pension fund from investing in Big Oil, Gas or Coal companies. The Fossils Fuels Divestment Act would end any investments in 200 of the largest publicly traded energy companies, in an effort to send a signal to Wall Street to acknowledge climate change and invest in renewable energy companies.
