State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Computer Crimes Unit arrested a 17-year-old for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. An investigation revealed that the unidentified 17-year-old from Otego was in possession and was promoting images consistent with child sexual exploitation. The arrest stems from a cyber tip received by the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Investigators located 233 videos and 68 images depicting child pornography. The teen was issued appearance tickets to the Otsego County Court on Wednesday.

Construction of a new SUNY Oneonta sign on the corner of Ravine Parkway and West Street will soon be underway. The groundbreaking for this project is scheduled for Monday, May 23 and we anticipate that the project will take approximately five months to complete. All construction will take place between 7:30 am. and 4:00 pm. Monday through Friday.

6 Otsego County School in 4 Districts participated in the Otsego County Film Plastic Recycling Challenge, with Gilbertsville-Mount Upton winning by collecting about half of all film plastic collected. Jeff O’Handley of the Otsego County Conservation Association explains:

O’Handley said that the event is co-sponsored by the Association and the County Solid Waste Department. During the challenge, schools collect as much film plastic as they can, it’s collected, weighed, and then dropped off for recycling, where it can be turned into new material such as composite lumber. The total amount collected in this contest was 3,085 pounds. More information is available at occainfo.org.
