Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Brian Fenton of the Town of Kortright following an investigation into child abuse. On March 9th, Deputies and Delaware County Child Protective Services received a referral regarding an alleged domestic incident involving possible child abuse, it was determined that a physical domestic incident had occurred on March 8th and multiple children were in the residence & were involved in a verbal and physical altercation with an adult. Fenton was charged with Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Fenton was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.

State Police arrested 34 year old Trent Burgess of Churchville Sunday for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child as Passenger Less Than 16, also known as Leandra’s Law. A Trooper observed a vehicle on State Route 17 initiated a traffic stop, Burgess failed a field sobriety test, he had an 11 year old child in the vehicle, Burgess was processed and was released on appearance tickets to the Sanford Town Court on May 5.

State Police arrested 54 year old Sherry Ashmore of Laurens for felony Grand Larceny, following a report from the Oneonta Walmart Sunday. Ashmore is accused of taking over $1,000 worth of merchandise out of the store without payment, Walmart employees attempted to stop Ashmore but she fled on foot. Troopers located Ashmore in Burger King and she was arrested, was processed and was released on an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on May 19, 2026.

A new report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli details how small businesses generate nearly $1 trillion in sales and revenues with more than 3.7 million employees at over 422,000 establishments in 2023,comprising 98.9% of all businesses in the state. New York ranked 4th among states in the number of small businesses and 3rd behind California and Florida for its share of small businesses, Over 80% of all New York businesses had fewer than 10 workers. Small businesses employed 3.7 million people, close to 45% of the state’s jobs, earning an average of $60,579 in annual pay in 2023.

State Police arrested 2 people and a third person was picked up on an arrest warrant following a traffic stop in the town of Oneonta Saturday. Troopers near Motel 88 in the city of Oneonta observed suspicious activity in the parking lot and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, 45 year old Ashley Darran of Unadilla, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs, a passenger, 40 year old Barbara Walley of Walton was found in possession of suspected illegal drugs and brass knuckles & was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a man who had exited the vehicle was found to have an active warrant with the City of Norwich Police Department and was returned to the City of Norwich to answer to his charges. Darran and Walley were issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on April 21, 2026.

State Police arrested 42 year old Michael Holbert of Bainbridge for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less Than 16, also known as Leandra’s Law. A Trooper was dispatched to State Route 17/Interstate 86 for a report of a motor vehicle collision, a 2002 Volkswagen struck a guardrail causing the vehicle to become disabled partially in the roadway. Holbert told the Trooper that he and a 4-year-old passenger were not injured, Holbert failed Field Sobriety Tests, he was arrested and his BAC was .15%, he was was processed and issued appearance tickets.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old Samuel Harris of Tennessee is facing 2 counts of 3rd degree Rape, plus Child Endangerment, for allegedly traveling from Tennessee to engage in sexual acts with a 15-year-old female he met on TikTok. On Sunday, Deputies responded to the Hillside Inn & Suites in the Town of Dickinson. Harris was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility. An Order of Protection was filed on behalf of the victim.
