Chenango County Public Health reported 7 new COVID 19 cases today, with 2 new deaths reported. Chenango County reports 66 Active Cases, 179 Active Quarantines, 14 Hospitalized, & 52 Total Deaths since the start of the pandemic. Chenango County Public Health received 200 doses of the COVID Vaccine this week; Distribution will go to 1A and 1B priority groups that have been identified by the State Health Department.

Otsego County Health Department reported 2 more COVID deaths Monday, they 17 news positive cases, 85 active cases, with 7 hospitalized. Otsego County has had 32 deaths since January 1st & 51 since the start of the pandemic.

Beginning on February 26th, New Yorkers can begin to visit residents in Nursing homes. The State Department of Health recommends that visitors take a rapid test before enters a facility, and the Health Department will provide rapid tests to nursing homes to facilitate their ability to test visitors on-site and at no cost. Visitation will depend on the nursing home facility being free of COVID-19 cases for 14 days and the facility is not currently conducting outbreak testing. The number of visitors to the nursing home must not exceed 20% of the number of residents.

New York State will reopen more recreational activities, Movie theaters are permitted to reopen March 5th at 25% capacity, with no more than 50 people per screen at a time. Other safety protocols will include assigned seating and social distancing.

The COVID testing center at SUNY Oneonta administered its 10,000th pool test for COVID since opening January 18th, in preparation for the spring semester. The positivity rate has fallen from .74 percent in late January to .19 percent last Friday. Following mandatory pre-testing before the start of the spring semester, SUNY Oneonta students who come to campus have been required to test weekly, as have campus employees. To ensure social distancing and accommodate high volume safety, the college set up a testing center in the largest space on campus, at the Alumni Field House.

As of 11:00 AM this morning, New York’s health care distribution sites have administered 91% of the COVID Vaccines first doses that have been delivered. The week 10 allocation from the federal government was delayed due to winter storms impacting much of the country, those deliveries are continuing to be delivered today, the week 11 allocation will begin arriving mid-week. 10 million New Yorkers are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, with over 300,000 doses coming each week, New Yorkers can find out about their eligibility by going to am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov.

Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig released a statement today that he will not seek re-election in the next election in November. Herzig has been mayor of Oneonta since 2015, prior to that he served as the vice chair of the Oneonta Planning Commission and the chair of the Oneonta Board of Assessment and Review.

Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire on Shaffer Avenue last night at about 7:00 PM. 2 occupants escaped without injuries, there was smoke damage inside, and fire damage to one wall, the investigation is continuing.

The CWA Union Local 14164 at Acco Brands in Sidney will have a Contract Vote today from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The vote will be held at the Union office at 9 River Street in Sidney, All COVID restrictions apply, Members Must wear Masks and only 2 members in Union Hall to vote at a time.

Delaware County Public Health reported 7 new COVID 19 cases out of 74 tests Monday, they reported 113 active cases with 23 hospitalized and 229 quarantined.

A RED CROSS BLOOD drive will be held at the Afton United Methodist Church at 34 Spring Street. The Blood drive runs from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, appointments are requested at 1-800-RED CROSS.
