A 17 year old from the Bronx is the state’s 1st death attributed to Vaping, Governor Cuomo addressed the health crisis earlier today:

Governor Cuomo said that the case has been turned over to the State Health Department for investigation. So far there have been about 1000 health related cases connected to Vaping, including 18 deaths.

The City of Norwich Police Department and the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office are seeking information on 31 year old Christopher Lacroce, for allegedly leading Police on a high speed chase last Friday, & who is also wanted on a warrant for allegedly hitting a pedestrian with a vehicle September 15th at the intersection of Mitchell and Silver streets in Norwich.  Lacroce faces charges of 2nd-degree assault, among other charges that are pending following Friday’s chase.   Anyone with information regarding Lacroce’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Norwich City Police Department at 607-334-2424 or the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office at 607-334-2000.

Today, 19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado announced that $1,239,817 in federal funds were recently awarded to the Friends of the Upper Delaware River and Trout Unlimited as part of the Delaware Watershed Conservation Fund. These new funds will allow local organizations to conserve and restore fish and wildlife habitat, enhance and maintain water quality, and improve river-based recreational opportunities and public access in the Upper Delaware Watershed.  The full list of projects can be found at delgado.house.gov.

NYSEG and AAA New York announced that they are working together to remind passenger and commercial drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.  NYSEG has seen an uptick in the number of passenger vehicles that strike electric poles and commercial construction vehicles that come into contact with power lines and other electric equipment.  According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 88% of drivers believe distracted driving is on the rise, with nearly half of all drivers admitting to recently talking on hand-held phones and another 35% reporting that they have sent a text or email while driving.

Governor Cuomo announced that 2 new laws to improve pay equity policies will go into effect today, which prohibits all employers who do business in New York State from asking prospective employees about their salary history and compensation.  The new laws also expand the definition of “equal pay for equal work.”

The Otsego County Chamber’s Small Business Banquet will be held on Thursday, November 21 at The Otesaga Hotel and Resort in Cooperstown.   Nominations for various awards are being taken currently; the nominations are requested to the Chamber by this Friday.

State officials, the Division of Homeland Security and the Office of Fire Prevention and Control will preside over the 22nd Annual New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony this morning.   The Ceremony will honor 23 fallen firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany at 11:00 AM.

The Tri Town Coalition on Substance Abuse Prevention will hold their next meeting this evening in Sidney.  The meeting will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Maiorano building at 9 Main Street, with Parking & the entrance to the meeting at the rear of building.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation which amends the criminal procedure law to clarify that individuals convicted of petty offenses will have their records sealed by default. Sealed records will not be made available to any person or public or private agency unless a judge determines otherwise,   the legislation will take effect in 90 days.
