The Broome County Health Department reported 82 new cases of COVID 19; they are up to 2468 positive cases of COVID 19. They report 83 deaths, 1752 recoveries & they are monitoring 3747 people.

Chenango County Health Department reported that they have had 10 news positive cases of COVID 19 since last week; they are up to 277 cases, with 17 active cases, 1 hospitalization & 168 active quarantines. They report 7 deaths, 242 recoveries and over 32,000 tests have been performed.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is proceeding quickly with confirmation hearings on Judge Amy Coney Barrett, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said that Judge Coney-Barret’s appointment increases the threat of repealing health care for millions of Americans and the future of the Affordable Care Act, & would hurt many New Yorkers:

Senator Gillibrand said that instead of rushing to fill the seat on the Supreme Court, the Senate should be rushing another stimulus bill to Americans & small businesses to help recover from the COVID-19 crisis.

Congressman Anthony Brindisi today announced 2 grants in New York’s 22nd district, totaling nearly $1 million. The funds come from the United States Department of Agriculture as part of their Rural Development grant program. The Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES was awarded $683,692 to help provide access to Science Technology Engineering and Math courses for high school students preparing for college or to enter the workforce. The Southern Tier Health Care System was awarded $218,557 to help fund education and training for opioid and substance abuse services in rural New York.

The city of Oneonta’s Former city manager George Korthauer left that position earlier this year, the Oneonta Common Council has yet to fill that position. The Council met Monday to discuss whether they will keep the position as is, or change the title to a city administrator, with slightly different tasks. The council made no decisions Monday & will address the topic again at a meeting next Monday.

Delaware County Public Health reported 3 new positive COVID 19 cases Monday. They are up to 135 cases, 9 people are recovering at home, 94 people are quarantined, 8 have died & 118 have recovered.

The Town of New Berlin will hold a Public Hearing today, regarding the town budget crunch. The hearing will begin at 5:45 at the Town Hall; the board may even consider disbanding the town Police Department to save $180,000 in costs.

55 year old George Knarich of New Lisbon was arrested by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly organized the New York Harvest Festival and Freedom Fair in Otsego County over the weekend after the Otsego County Health Department issued a cease and desist order to stop the event. Knarich is accused of violating Governor Cuomo’s executive orders banning mass gatherings, and is facing trespassing and criminal nuisance charges, he was taken into custody and is being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending court action, the investigation is ongoing, and another arrest is pending.
