42 year old James English Jr. of Endicott, was sentenced today to 23 years to life in State Prison in Broome County Court. On June 6, 2023, English stabbed Jessica Picciano 31 times causing her death.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to keep track of gift cards received during the holidays. When gift cards aren’t used for five years, their balances may be turned over by retailers to the Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds (OUF). In 2024, the office recovered over $21 million from gift cards, more than three times the amount received in 2014 ($5.8 million). New Yorkers are encouraged to spend holiday gift cards early this new year and remember to check for unclaimed funds at ouf.osc.state.ny.us.

Governor Hochul revealed a plan to send refund checks to New Yorkers in 2025 to help curb the effects of inflation. The plan would send $3 billion in refund checks to approximately 8.6 million New York residents. Families making less than $300,000 will receive a check for $500 and single taxpayers making less than $150,00 would receive $300 under the proposed plan, if the plan is approved checks would go out in Fall 2025.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic Stop on State Route 206 in the Town Of Colchester, 39-year-old Lynn Ash of Dartmouth, Massachusetts was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration, as well as several other traffic violations, Ash was released on appearance tickets and traffic summonses returnable to the Town of Colchester Court for a later date and time.

3 more new laws went into effect on January 1st, one which ensures ballots are structured consistently, listing federal and statewide offices first, followed by other categories, making voting more straightforward. Another new State law includes abortion rights in the state constitution, reaffirming access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare. Another bill will Leave Expiration Protections under COVID-19 to end on July 31, 2025, signaling a shift from pandemic-era policies.

State Police arrested 36 year old Steven Warner of Endicott for Grand Larceny, Obstructing Governmental Administration and Criminal Possession Controlled Substance. Troopers were dispatched to the Walmart in Oneonta, Troopers met Warner outside of the store, they determined that he stole over $5-thousand worth of merchandise, he was also operating a vehicle with switched license plates, & they located suspected illicit substances inside the vehicle along with other stolen goods, allegedly from the Walmart in Cobleskill, worth more than $4-thousand. Warner was turned over to Troopers in Cobleskill & charged with Grand larceny for the Cobleskill incident, he was released & was ordered to appear at the Cobleskill Town Court today.
