7 People were arrested on a variety of drug charges, following a raid by State Police & the Broome County CNET team at 122 Pierce Avenue in Endwell. Police accuse the 7 of participating in a drug ring from that location; police seized over 2700 bags of heroin, all 7 were arraigned in Johnson City Court this afternoon & were sent to the Broome County jail pending future court action.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended the addition of 27 properties, resources and districts to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The nominations reflect the remarkable breadth of New York’s history, ranging from the nationally significant home of the 1904 Democratic candidate for president to the birthplace of the first African American collegiate fraternity, and the summer cottage of the businessman who brought Jell-O to the market. In Delaware County, The Second Walton Armory, Home of the 33rd Separate Company of the 17th Battalion of Walton has been included, the armory was constructed between 1895 and 1897 in a fortress-like style intended to inspire pride and patriotism amongst law-abiding citizens and fear and awe amongst the so-called “dangerous lower classes.”

State Police arrested 37-year-old Jeremy Lester of Endicott for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device plus several other traffic tickets. The arrest occurred after the suspect was observed moving from his lane unsafely while driving on State route 7 in the Town of Unadilla & without a court-ordered interlock device from a prior conviction. Lester refused to be tested for drugs, he was arraigned in the Town of Unadilla court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond pending court action on August 12th.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 58 year old Mark Babcock of Otselic for 2 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, following a sealed indictment by a Chenango County Grand Jury last week, following an investigation for the sale of a narcotics from Babcock’s residence, on County Road 16 in the Town of Otselic. Babcock is currently in custody and awaiting arraignment in the Chenango County Court.

Catholic Charities announced that they would be taking applications for their back to school backpack program. Applications can be picked up Tuesdays or Fridays in room 302 of the Sidney Civic Center through August 15th; more information is available at 604-4071.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of two sheep tied to trees, without water, in the Town of Hamden. Deputies identified their owner as 37 year old Lee McDonald of Walton, who was charged with 2 counts of Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance to animals under the New York State Agriculture and Market. McDonald was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Hamden Court on August 15th. McDonald was also arrested on 2 outstanding Bench Warrants issued by the City of Oneonta Court for Failure to pay a fine. He was turned over to Oneonta Police to be arraigned on those warrants.

The Center for Agricultural Development & Entrepreneurship will be hosting a Pasture Walk at Slope Farms in Meredith today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Pasture Walk will focus on their use of low-cost fencing technologies, daily rotations, and decision making processes that keep their pastures producing high-energy forages throughout the growing season. Slope Farms is located on Catskill Turnpike between State Highway 28 and County Highway 14.
