State Police arrested 23-year-old Nicholas Degristina of Burlington Flats, for DWI & other traffic tickets, after troopers responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Otsego County Route 18 at State Route 80 in the Town of Pittsfield. Degristina is accused of failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign and crashing into a New Berlin Police. The Police Officer was transported to the Chenango Hospital for abrasions to his head and hands. Degristina was not injured; He was issued tickets for Town of Pittsfield Court on February 15th.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 Town of Lincklaen residents for operating a methamphetamine lab out of their home on County Road 13. The State Environmental Conservation Police were called in due to burn piles at the residence, which were evidence of a “one pot” methamphetamine operation. A search warrant was later issued & Methamphetamine and paraphernalia were recovered. 29-year-old Allyssa Jackson & 28-year-old James Kelly were arrested for Unlawful Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Unlawful Disposal of Methamphetamine Equipment, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, both were arraigned & were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail.

David Sweat has been ordered to pay restitution of more than $79,000 & was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 7 years additional prison time for the escape from the Clinton Correctional Facility last year, along with Richard Matt. Both Matt & Sweat were on the run for 22 days last June, Matt was fatlly shot by Police on June 26th, Sweat was shot 2 days later and was captured after 22 days on the run. Sweat was originally sentenced to life in prison for murdering Broome County Deputy Kevin Tarsia in 2002.

Yesterday in Chenango County Court, convicted murderer Ganesh Ramsaran received the maximum sentence for attempting to bribe a corrections officer. Ramsaran is already serving 25 years to life for killing his wife, Jennifer, in December 2012. He pleaded guilty to 2nd degree bribery, which added 5 to 15 more years on top of the previous murder conviction. Ramsaran offered a corrections officer $100,000 to help him escape from the Chenango County Jail, the exchange was caught on surveillance video.
