41 year old Nasir Azmat of Franklin is due  in Town of Franklin court tonight to answer to more than 40 counts relating to animal cruelty, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond said that it remains to be seen if Azmat shows up for court tonight:

Azmat’s court appearance is scheduled for 6:00 PM tonight in Franklin Town Court, 20 dogs allegedly used for dog fighting were taken from his property earlier this month by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 5 firefighters were injured in a Middlefield garage fire on Otsego County Route 35.  The firefighters were injured following at least 1 explosion inside the garage, the injured were taken to Bassett Hospital, and state fire officials are investigating.  Firefighters from Middlefield, Cooperstown, Westford, Cherry Valley, and Milford responded to the fire Wednesday night.

The Tri-town Coalition on Substance Abuse Prevention announced that their meeting originally scheduled for tonight in Sidney has been cancelled due to the weather.   The next meeting will be held on March 26th at the Sidney School.

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for their annual Citizen of the Years & Business of the Years Awards; Sidney Chamber President Teri Schunk told WCDO News that they are adding 2 more awards this year:

The Village of Delhi Police Department arrested 23-year-old Shakiea Goodwin of Brooklyn for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. Goodwin is accused of passing counterfeit $50 bills at a local garage to pay the tow bill on a vehicle that had been impounded by the police over the previous weekend. Goodwin was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court where she was released on her own recognizance.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has suggested the removal from duty of Broome County Family Court Judge Richard Miller.  Miller is accused of making sexist & demeaning remarks to female staff members, and for failing to report income and pay sufficient taxes.  Judge Miller may accept the recommendations & resign, or he may request a review by the State Court of Appeals.
