The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in Norwich will be back July 8th and 9th in the parking lot at the Norwich High School and Middle School. Organizer Tom Revoir told WCDO news that they need referees, scorekeepers & volunteers for other tasks again this year:

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Devon Trew of Endicott, for allegedly smuggling contraband into the Correctional Facility. As investigators began to initiate Contraband Protocol, Trew attempted to flush a package of contraband down the toilet of his cell. Officers recovered the container and further investigation revealed multiple packages containing various narcotics and contraband, including suboxone strips a few strips contained Methamphetamine, Investigators also confiscated 2 packages of marijuana and synthetic cannabis, 1 package of tobacco & matches, Trew was charged with Criminal Possession Controlled Substance, Promoting Prison Contraband & Tampering with Evidence. Trew has been arrested on contraband-related charges at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility previously in 2018. Trew was currently serving time on a Petty Larceny charge.

City of Norwich Police Department Chief Rodney Marsh will be retiring. At the Norwich Common Council Meeting, it was decided that Detective Sergeant Reuben Roach would become the next Norwich Police Chief on March 3rd.
