SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras announced that 5 students in Oneonta have been suspended for holding parties against the college policy & 3 campus organizations have also been suspended. The 5 students are alleged to have served as hosts of large off-campus parties & Chancellor Malatras said that at those gatherings there were several students who were symptomatic of COVID 19 & upon testing, there were 20 positive cases diagnosed. Chancellor Malatras announced that they have decided to Suspend In-Person Instruction at SUNY Oneonta for 2 Weeks. SUNY Oneonta Officials said that law enforcement officials on campus and in the City of Oneonta are working together to confront situations that compromise the students & city residents safety.

Governor Cuomo announced that he has is deploying a SWAT team to SUNY ONEONTA to contain their COVID-19 Cluster. The state team is sending 71 Contact Tracers and 8 Case Investigators to Oneonta & the State Will Open 3 Free Rapid Testing Sites in Oneonta with Results in 15 Minutes, the site Locations are being set up today & the sites will also be open to all city residents by appointment.

Hartwick College determined Sunday that 1 student has tested positive for COVID-19, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 on the Hartwick campus. The student is isolating at home. The Department of Health is responsible for contact tracing and will notify individuals with whom the student may have had contact. Hartwick College officials announced that no one is allowed on the College Private Property except enrolled students, delivery people & Hartwick Employees. Remote learners are not permitted to enter the campus.

Otsego County Department of Health continues to investigate a large outbreak at SUNY Oneonta, on Sunday, 38 lab confirmed cases were reported in SUNY students. Currently there is 94 lab confirmed cases and 34 suspect cases in SUNY Oneonta students and 6 cases in high school students. Anyone who suspects they may have been in contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus should quarantine at home & contact the local health department. Currently, Otsego County has 219 total confirmed cases, 103 are active, & no one is hospitalized

Chenango county Public Health announced a slight increase in COVID 19 cases since Friday; they are up to 227 total cases, with 3 Active Cases, 71 Quarantines, 2 Active Hospitalizations, 204 Recoveries, 7 deaths and a Total of 22687 Tests Performed.

Bassett Hospital President & CEO Dr. Tommy Ibrahim has announced his first appointments to a new network leadership team, who will work in various capacities to propel the network toward full integration and position Bassett as a national player in health care delivery. Jeff Joyner has been appointed as Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, he has served as president of A.O. Fox Hospital since 2015, he will serve as the responsible executive for network hospital operations, system support services, and all integration efforts & he will still continue to have oversight of the A.O. Fox Hospital campuses with his new position, in addition to all other network hospitals.

Governor Cuomo and New York labor leaders today called on Congress to provide $59 billion to address catastrophic budget shortfalls that impact the jobs and livelihoods of thousands of workers in the state. The governor and labor leaders sent a letter to federal representatives enumerating the critical infrastructure projects that would be impacted without federal funding and the hospitals, schools and institutions that would be supported by it. The governor and labor leaders also called on Congress to repeal the tax change that eliminated the State and Local Tax Deduction, also known as “SALT”.

Congressman Anthony Brindisi pushed a plan today to double the federal funding for the Department of Justice, the Community Oriented Policing Services or “COPS” Program to recruit, hire, train and fund more community beat cops on the streets. The plan is a national effort. In 2020, the program awarded 596 grants to hire 2,731 police officers at police departments across the nation, according to Justice Department statistics. Brinidisi said that the City of Binghamton just received $250,000 of COPS funds in June.

Governor Cuomo announced that COVID-19 Sunday Hospitalizations Dropped to 418, the number of ICU patients dropped to 109, 51 patients were on ventilators & there was 1 death associated with the COVID virus in New York State Sunday, the state death toll is 25,328. There were 656 positive COVID 19 tests Sunday, bringing the Statewide Total to 434,756.
