It was 40 years ago on May 8th, that WCDO hits the airwaves at AM 1490, and WCDO’s Craig Stevens talked with Greg Davie, who was the 1st voice heard on the station, he described the station’s first days of operation and growth:

WCDO remains as one of the few stand alone independent radio stations in the country, along the way winning 2 awards from the New York State Broadcasters Association Awards for covering the General Clinton Canoe Regatta, Sports Director Nate Lull has won 3 Outstanding Social Media Personality Awards from the State Broadcasters Association, and WCDO Has won local acclaim for coverage during The Flooding of 2006, 2011 and well as many other natural weather disaster over the last 40 years.

Last Thursday Braedon Baker of Norwich asked permission to bring his tractor to Norwich High School Friday, as he had some errands to run with it after school, he was told he could not. Braedon’s Father Rob Baker told him that it was not illegal, and to take it anyway and Friday the tractor was impounded by Norwich City Police & taken to the City Lot. Rob Baker paid the $325 towing fee and they went home, You Tuber “Whistlin’s Diesel” heard the story & offered to pay Norwich School District residents to drive their tractors to school today & he would pay them, according to Rob Baker:

Baker said that their hope is to take to publicity that this event raised & start an FFA group at the Norwich school district.

The CDC is warning residents in most upstate counties to wear masks due to high case-counts of COVID-19. 36 counties are now classified as having “high” community levels of the coronavirus, making up almost half of the entire nationwide total. “High Transmission” counties have confirmed cases of the new BA.2.12 sub-variant, according to the state Health Department officials. Governor Hochul’s office reported Thursday that Central New York, the Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley and Southern Tier were on a downward trend in case counts, and hospitalizations.

The State DMV is warning residents about an increase in catalytic converter thefts across the state. The DMV will now issue serial numbers to dealers to etch into each catalytic converter, which use platinum, palladium, and other precious metals is the reason criminals are stealing them, The catalytic converters have a street value of between $200 and $300.

Health care fraud includes fraudulent, misleading, or deceptive claims for weight loss products or services, health spas and equipment, and over the counter or prescription drugs. New Yorkers are advised to contact their medical health care provider before trying any weight loss or health care product, Consumers who believe they have been victims of a health scam can file a complaint at dos.ny.gov/file-consumer-complaint, or call the DCP Helpline at 800-697-1220.

State Police have identified 20-year-old Tyler Graham of Burlington Flats as the driver of a car in a fiery crash in Edmeston Thursday night. The initial investigation revealed that Graham was traveling at an unsafe speed on County Highway 20 when he struck a fence and tree & his vehicle caught fire. Police were able to remove Graham from the car, he was transported by helicopter to Upstate Medical Center, The crash remains under investigation.

The City of Oneonta Police Department arrested 36-year-old Melissa Scott of Oneonta for 1st degree Assault and criminal possession of a weapon, after Scott and a 34-year-old male victim engaged in a domestic dispute at 7 Fonda Avenue in Oneonta. Scott allegedly stabbed the male victim causing a serious injury and uncontrolled bleeding, he was transported to Fox Hospital, was stabilized & was transported to Albany Medical Center. Scott was held at the City of Oneonta Jail Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Department Detectives Division at (607)432-1111.

Governor Kathy Hochul has tested positive for COVID-19. Governor Hochul stated that she has been both vaccinated and boosted, along with not showing any symptoms. Hochul will be continuing her isolation throughout the week and work remotely until she is cleared.
