Long lines & a packed house greeted presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at the Floyd Maines Memorial Arena in Binghamton this morning. Sanders spoke for about one hour about his campaign platform & urged those in attendance to vote for him on April 19th in the Democratic Party Primary.

Sanders also has appearances in Albany and Buffalo today, on Tuesday, Sanders will appear in Rochester and Syracuse.

Area residents are receiving Scam phone calls from people claiming to be from the IRS. Area tax Preparer George McLain said that his office has received more calls from concerned taxpayers in the last few weeks about this scam:

State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico announced that he would be stepping down shortly. D’Amico has been the Superintendent of the State Police since 2011; he will stay on until Governor Cuomo picks a successor.

State Police arrested 29-year-old Rebbecca Johnson of Oneonta for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C. result of .23% and other traffic violations. This arrest occurred after a trooper responded to a 911 report of an accident where a vehicle rolled down an embankment on State Route 23 in the Town of Laurens. Johnson is accused of being intoxicated when she struck a guide rail and then rolled her vehicle down an embankment, She and her passenger were not injured and where able to crawl out by themselves. Johnson was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Laurens court on April 21st.

State Police arrested 30-year-old Robert Smith of Oneonta, for 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Troopers responded to a report of 2 children running in the middle of the road unattended, the 4 and 6-year-old brothers were located by troopers near the Dairy Queen on Chestnut Street in Oneonta. The 2 boys had been left under the care of their father Smith, who was found sleeping at his home, unaware that his children had left. Smith was arraigned in the Town of Oneida court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $200 cash bail or $400 property bond pending court action.

The village of Sidney announced that they would be flushing hydrants for the next 2 weeks, starting today. Flushing will occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM Monday through Friday.

Governor Cuomo announced that his administration has reached a retroactive one-year labor agreement with the New York State Public Employees Federation. PEF is one of the largest unions in the United States and is New York’s second-largest state-employee union, representing 54,000 workers. The one-year contract agreement includes a two percent salary increase retroactive to April 1, 2015.

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will partner with the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce at their ‘Boast and Toast’ event to be held in Sidney. The event will occur at Gravity Ciders in the Sidney Industrial Park, they will be showcasing their products at the event today from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at 8 Winkler Road, Sidney.
