Following Friday’s announcement of the arrest of 41 year old Nasir Azmat of Franklin on a variety of charges relating to many animal cruelty charges, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond stated that in spite of the severity of the case, Azmat was not held at the county jail prior to court action, because of the new Bail Reform laws:

Azmat was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Franklin court on February 27th at 6:00 PM.

State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 14 year old that fell through the ice into a creek in Cortland County Saturday afternoon.  An investigation revealed that the 14-year-old fell through the ice in Harford, Saturday afternoon at about 4:30 PM and was located just outside of the water.  The 14-year-old was transported by ambulance to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and later succumbed to injuries.

The next general membership meeting for the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will be tomorrow morning at Bob’s Diner.  The meeting will begin at 7:30 AM.

Several Chenango County Area fire companies responded Sunday morning to a barn fire in the town of Smithville.  The barn was completely destroyed; there were no animals in the barn, fire fighters from Oxford, Greene, McDonough, Brisben & Triangle assisted the Smithville Fire department, one of the firefighters sustained minor burns.

Serina Madden was sentenced in Broome County Court Friday to 15 years in prison and five years’ parole for manslaughter in the death of her 10-year-old Belladonna Loke.  Madden withheld food and medical care from her daughter, whose body was found in the family’s Town of Colesville Home in February 2018

State Police are investigating a 2 vehicle accident at the intersection of State Highway 80 and 205 Friday afternoon where 8 people were injured.  State Police reported that Ryan Palmatier of Hartwick was driving an SUV on Route 205 when he pulled out in front of a van from Pathfinder Village driven by Amanda Quillen of Norwich. The van struck the SUV and it overturned, all 8 people involved in the crash were taken to Bassett hospital in Cooperstown with non-life-threatening injuries.
