Oneonta Police arrested 20-year-old Julian Vancourt-Weis of Schenectady, on charges of 1st degree attempted murder, 1st degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Oneonta Police responded late Friday night to the report of a domestic dispute at 30 Maple Street, the victim was taken to Albany Medical center with stab wounds to the face, neck, shoulder & arms, she was subsequently released from the Hospital Saturday night. Vancourt-Weis was arraigned & was sent to the Otsego County Jail without bail pending future court action.

The Delaware County Tourism Advisory Board is now accepting applications for funding under the newly created Tourism Promotion & Development Grant program, to provide funding assistance to eligible applicants for projects that seek to attract more tourists. Applications for grant assistance under this program must be hand-delivered to the Delaware County Department of Economic Development or postmarked by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. The Tourism Promotion & Development Grant program is funded through revenues raised through the Delaware County Hotel Occupancy Tax. The Oneonta Police Department announced that, in anticipation of the snow event predicted for Tomorrow, the City is lifting parking regulations in municipal lots effective at midnight, Tuesday December 12th. Residents are reminded that vehicles are not permitted to be parked on city streets any time there is more than 2 ½” of snowfall.

The Modern Baseball Era Committee has elected three-time 20-game winner Jack Morris and six-time All-Star shortstop Alan Trammell to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Morris and Trammell will be joined in the Hall of Fame Class of 2018 by any electees who emerge from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America voting, on January 24th. Morris pitched 18 seasons and pitched for 4 World Series Champions, Trammell spent his entire 20-year big league career with the Tigers, and he was the 1984 World Series MVP,

The City of Oneonta announced the cancellation of 4 meetings this week, due to a lack of agenda items. Cancelled are today’s “Operations, Planning & Evaluation Committee meetings, Tuesday’s Legislative committee meeting, and the Community Development committee & Planning Commission meetings on Wednesday.
The Broome County District Attorney, the State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance and State Police announced a large scale bust of untaxed tobacco products which resulted in 14 arrests. 13 people from Broome County and one person from Elmira were arrested in a bust of shops selling untaxed cigarettes. State Police made the arrests Thursday evening, in simultaneous sweeps of 11 convenience stores, more charges are anticipated.

The State Department of Health announced the filing of regulations for adoption that will improve the state’s Medical Marijuana Program for patients, practitioners and registered organizations. These regulations allow for the sale of additional medical marijuana products and the ability for the Department to approve new courses that will allow prospective practitioners to complete their training in a shorter amount of time. The regulations also streamline the manufacturing requirements for medical marijuana products. There are 38,642 certified patients and 1,358 registered practitioners participating in the program.

Governor Cuomo today announced the availability of $26 million of for the Affordable Home Ownership Development Program. Grants can be used to make improvements to existing owner-occupied single or multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives; acquire and rehabilitate owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives; and construct new owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives including dilapidated and manufactured homes. Delaware County Public Health is hosting a free training session called “Self Care: A Response to Vicarious Trauma”. The program will be held today from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon & from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. The program is geared to professionals who treat people with physical or emotional traumas full time and often find themselves in need of counseling.
