A Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 8 count indictment against 45 year old Glen Merwin of Harpersfield, for Criminal Mischief, 2 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and 3 counts of Harassment, Criminal Contempt, Merwin is accused of damaging another person’s property, acting in a manner endangering children, and ignoring a court order. The allegations stem from incidents in December of 2024.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Minority Leader Charles Schumer announced that they secured $104 million for local projects in New York State. Funding includes $667,000 for Chenango Memorial Hospital to replace its existing roof, windows, and exterior doors, reducing energy costs and improving safety and security.

The Norwich Family YMCA will hold the annual Turkey Trot 5K, at 12:30 PM this Sunday,starting in front of the YMCA at 68-70 North Broad Street in Norwich. Organizer Shannon Gawronski explains:

51 year old Lawrence Slater of Norwich pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in Chenango County Court and was sentenced to 5-to-15-years in state prison. Slater had a BAC of twice the legal limit on April 12th, the ensuing crash killed 62-year-old Steven Biviano of Oxford, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Slater was taken to Wilson Hospital where his BAC was .18,

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 64 year old Keith Hansen of Oneonta, following an investigation into a sex offender failing to report an address change to authorities as required by a Sex Offender. Hansen was released from the Otsego County Correctional Facility in March, he did not update his address with the sex offender registry, an arrest warrant issued & Hansen was located in Oneonta by deputies and taken in to custody without incident, he is being held pending arraignment on the latest charges.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office reported that a fugitive from Broome County was apprehended in Polk County Florida. 44-year-old Dustin Yannuzzi was wanted on a warrant issued in Broome County for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell, Tampering with Evidence, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, and Fleeing to Elude, Yannuzzi was removed from the vehicle and arrested without incident, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine & faces charges in Florida, he will be returned to New York shortly.
