Casey Callahan was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison In Otsego County Court today, for the murder of his wife Elizabeth in 2000. Pennsylvania. An Otsego County jury convicted Callahan of 2nd degree murder recently, for running over his wife with an 18-wheeler at a gas station on Route 17 in Pennsylvania; the case was tried in New York as prosecutors said that Callahan plotted to murder his wife in Otsego County.

Governor Cuomo activated the State Emergency Operations Center and has directed all state agencies to take precautionary measures and mobilize personnel in order to monitor and prepare for severe weather. Representatives from Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Office of Emergency Management, plus the DOT, DEC, State Police & many others have all been direct to immediately report to the Emergency Operations Center following the activation.

State Police arrested 28-Year-old Philip Dionisio of Mamaroneck early Sunday Morning for Felony DWI and other traffic violations. Troopers responded to a report of a car in a ditch off of Newton Town Road, in the Town of Bainbridge, Dionisio is accused of Driving while Intoxicated when he drove into a ditch; the arrest is a felony due to a prior DWI conviction. Dionisio was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond.

As Daylight Savings Time comes to an end on November 5, the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York urges all citizens to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure their homes are properly prepared for an emergency. Alarms equipped with either removable or sealed-in batteries both need to be tested. Removable batteries should be replaced, and sealed-in batteries should be checked to confirm they are functioning. Governor Cuomo signed a bill into law that will take effect in 2019 that will require all smoke alarms sold in New York State to be equipped with sealed-in, non-removable batteries that last for at least 10 years.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the Excelsior Scholarship application for students to attend SUNY or CUNY tuition free this spring semester will open today, Monday, October 30th and will be open until December 4th. Recipients of the Excelsior Scholarship’s spring awards will join the more than 210,000 students already attending a public college or university in New York State tuition-free, and the 45,000 students deemed eligible for the Scholarship in the fall. Applications are available at hesc.ny.gov/excelsior.

28-year-old Justin Crandall of Sidney confessed to 3 counts of sexual exploitation on a plea bargain arrangement in Federal Court Friday, his wife, 27-year-old Jessica Crandall pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Sexually Exploit a Child. The couple were arrested by the FBI and State Police after they executed search warrants at their Sidney residence and found the explicit videos on cell phones. Jessica Crandall still faces other charges & additional court action. Justin Crandall will face sentencing on February 23rd.

State Police and local law enforcement have increased patrols to crack down on impaired driving and underage drinking through Halloween on Tuesday. The enforcement campaign includes sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols; officers will also be looking for motorists who are using their phones and other electronic devices while behind the wheel. Drivers should also remember to “move over” for stopped emergency and hazard vehicles stopped on the side of the road.
