State Senator Jim Seward announced today that the will NOT seek re-election this year, and will retire from the senate when his current term expires at the end of the year. Seward released a statement saying that he has responded well to his recent cancer treatments, but his continuing treatments will limit his ability to maintain the rigorous schedule needed to campaign for re-election. Seward has serviced in the State Senate since 1986.

Governor Cuomo will release his state budget plan Tomorrow afternoon which has a 6 Billion dollar projected budget gap due to the state taking over the Medicaid costs from local governments over the last 6 years, he commented during his State of the State address 2 weeks ago:

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli stated last week that the state too often relies on moving deficits to out-year budgets, eventually it has to be dealt with.

Bills are being drawn up in both house of the state legislature to rescind or delay the controversial Bail Reform bill that went into effect January 1st. Hundreds of criminal charges that used to result in suspects being held on bail, are now having the suspects released back into their communities, several committed crimes within hours of their release. Governor Cuomo made no mention of the controversy in his State of the State address on January 8th.

Former New York Congressman Christopher Collins was sentenced Friday to 26 months in federal prison for his role in an illegal insider trading scheme involving an Australian business. Collins must surrender on March 17th to the Bureau of Prisons & will be sent to a federal prison, He resigned from Congress immediately after the plea.

On Friday Investigators and Deputies from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 48-year-old Mark Boice of Delancey for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Forcible Touching, for allegedly touching a child inappropriately. Boice was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Hamden Court at a later date.
