Governor Cuomo today announced that based on each region’s infection rate, schools across the state are permitted to open this fall. Every region’s infection rate is below the threshold necessary by the State’s standards to open schools. The Department of Health will review submitted reopening plans from school districts and notify districts of their status on Monday. Out of 749 school districts across the state, 127 have not yet submitted plans to the Department of Health and another 50 are incomplete or deficient.  The determination of how individual districts reopen, whether in-person or a hybrid model will be made by local school districts under strict Department of Health guidelines.

The State Health Department announced that another 714 positive COVID 19 tests were diagnosed Thursday, bringing the state total to 419, 642 since March.  There were 5 more deaths attributed to COVID 19, bringing the state death toll to 25,190.  The percentage of those testing positive was still around 1%, the number of hospitalized patients and patients on ventilators continues to decline.

The Broome County Health Department announced that a few more positive COVID 19 cases were diagnosed, bringing their total up to 1,043.  They report 70 deaths, 848 recoveries and 678 are being monitored by the department. which has conducted over 30,300 tests since March.

Governor Cuomo signed an executive order extending the eviction moratorium enacted back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That order officially expired at midnight on August 5th; Cuomo’s extension keeps it alive through September 4th.  Governor Cuomo said that there would be no evictions due to non-payment of rent as long COVID 19 continues to be an issue.

Chenango County Public Health released their latest COVID 19 statistics today, they are still at 212 total cases, with 135 Quarantined, 1 patient is hospitalized, there have been 191 Recoveries, 7 deaths & they have performed over 17,500 tests.

An American Red Cross Blood Drive is being held in Sidney today at the Fireman’s Training Center on River Street.  The Blood Drive will be held from 1:00 until 6:00 PM, Appointments are requested at RED CROSS BLOOD.Org, 1-800 RED-CROSS or with the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

In March, the Chenango United Way opened a COVID-19 Response Fund to collect donations in response to the pandemic that adversely affected local families. Donations have exceeded $85,000, over $71,000 has been allocated to local organizations battling Food Security, Rent, Utilities, & Mental Health needs for individuals struggling with the emotional & economic impact of COVID 19

Delaware County received no new positive test results for COVID-19 today and no additional recoveries have been reported. The known active cases in the County remains at 1. To date there have been 96 confirmed positive cases,  with 16 people under mandatory quarantine, 1 person is isolated at home, no one is in a hospital, 6 people have died and 89 have fully recovered.
