Sidney Police Officer Morgan Smith today received a national award from Delaware County Acting District Attorney Shawn Smith for her diligence in removing drunk & drugged drivers from local roads, Sidney Police Chief Eric Oliver commented about officer Smith:

Chief Oliver said that Officer Smith achieved this award while still on her probationary period with the Sidney Police Department.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday, afternoon to a work zone accident on the I-88 westbound bridge north of I-81. The investigation found that after a heavy downpour, an employee exiting a port-a-John was struck by a passing water truck traveling within the construction area in reverse, which ran over the worker’s legs and lower torso. The victim remained conscious was transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed a questionable placement of the portable facility, no charges have been filed, the accident report was sent to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Congressman Marc Molinaro announced today that the USDA will release federal resources for an agricultural disaster designation for all 11 counties in Molinaro’s 19th District and 20 other counties in New York, in response to freeze and frost last May, which caused significant damage and losses to crops. The disaster designation allows farm operators to be eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans. The City of Norwich announced that their boil water advisory issued Thursday in the southern part of the city, has been lifted. The advisory was order following a water main Break & South Broad Street near Hale Street.

Broome County District Attorney’ Office announced that 49 year old Kristina Doty pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault & will spend 5 years in jail. Doty admitted to causing physical injury to another person on March 12th, she injured a 63-year-old woman when she struck her in the head multiple times with a flashlight. Doty has a prior felony conviction for 2nd Degree Assault in 2015. She will be sentenced on November 16.

The Co-Ed Sidney Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be held tomorrow at Keith Clark Park in Sidney, with teams from around the state competing, the day will also be coupled with a fundraiser by the American Legion, to help Sidney’s league play at Keith Clark Park & pay for lights & other assorted costs, according to tournament organizer Matt Walsh of Sidney:
