Binghamton Police arrested 36-year-old Dushon Goldwire of Binghamton, he has been charged with attempted murder, following a report of shots being fired Thursday morning. Binghamton Police responded to 25 Pearne Street, where 6 rounds were fired, Goldwire will be arraigned in City Court, the investigation is continuing, and police are asking anyone with information to call 772-7080.

Binghamton Fire Investigators have determined that it was a cigarette that caused the fire on the roof of the East Middle School in Binghamton on July 23rd. 8 workers were trapped but not injured by the fire, several classrooms below sustained damage. The Binghamton Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire in about an hour, as well as remove the roofers who had no other way down. No injuries were reported.

A trial date of November 16th has been set for former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos & his son Adam, in a Manhattan federal courtroom. Skelos is accused of using his political influence to get his son a no-show job with a malpractice insurance company; he was previously accused of threatening an environmental technology company if his son was not hired as a consultant. Dean Skelos stepped down as head of the State Senate after his initial arrest in May, his deputy Senate leader Tom Libous was convicted of lying to the FBI about using his political influence get his son a job with a White Plains law firm.

45-year-old Robert Wheeler of Milford has been charged with 3rd & 4th degree grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than $4,000 worth of auto parts and accessories. Wheeler was charged following a complaint that he ordered 2 shipments of auto parts last year and refused to pay for them. Wheeler faces court action on August 4th.

Improvements to the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s sporting license-issuance and game harvest reporting system are in place in time for this year’s hunting season. The DEC also changed the Deer Management Assistance Program to streamline the program and expand opportunities for landowners needing deer management assistance. The 2015-16 hunting and trapping licenses go on sale on August 10 and are valid beginning September 1, 2015. The Oneonta department of public service announced that they would be reconstructing the sub base & pavement on Valleyview Street & 6th Street starting on Monday at 7:00 AM. Work will be performed between 7:00 AM & 6:00 PM on weekdays; the project is expected to be completed by September 1st. The department also announced that they will be replacing a portion of the water main & services & all of the pavement on 8th street starting on august 10th from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekdays, a completion date has not been determined. The State DOT today announced that the right lane on I-81 northbound near the Exit 5 interchange at Front Street is closed to through-traffic until Monday morning at 11:00 AM, to accommodate the shuttle busses being used for the annual Spiedie Fest & Balloon Rally. I-81 northbound through-traffic will be shifted to the left and center lanes near Exit 5, the right lane will be used as a dedicated shuttle bus acceleration lane to enter and exit the highway, Motorists are advised to use extreme caution during Spiedie Fest, & they should be aware of slow moving traffic, & high traffic volume.

Delaware County Public Health and The Village of Sidney Police will be providing a Car Seat Safety Event at the Sidney McDonalds tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. 73% of car seats are used or installed incorrectly; Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be there to show how to correctly install and use a child’s safety or booster seat.
