47 year old Kristina Hand of Morris was sentenced in federal court to 2 years of probation, she was ordered to serve 50 hours of community service & pay $34,000 in restitution, for stealing that amount from the Morris Central School District, while serving as school treasurer from 2014 to 2020. Hand pleaded guilty to 2 counts of federal program theft, she admitted she stole about $24,000 by depositing checks payable to the school district into bank accounts that she controlled, and for stealing at least $10,000 more by using the school district’s Amazon account and credit cards to purchase personal items.

Identity thefts in New York surged during the pandemic with more than 67,000 complaints filed statewide in 2020, which was 85 percent more than the previous year and more than four times the annual total from a decade earlier, according to a report released today by New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Credit card fraud was the most common type of identity theft reported last year, with nearly 25,000 New Yorkers victimized.

Sidney Village Crews will be turning the water off this afternoon along West Main Street from Sunset to Pearl Street. The water will be shut off at around 2:30 PM for a couple of hours, as work is conducted on the water main near the Sidney High School.

The Chenango County Blues Association announced that the Chenango Blues fest is being scheduled for this summer. The blues fest will begin on Thursday August 19th with a free concert at the East Side Park Stage, a lengthy line up of acts are also slated to perform Friday August 20th & Saturday August 21st at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, information will be updated at chenangobluesfest.org.

About 1,300 members of SUNY Oneonta’s graduating class will be recognized tomorrow during 2021 commencement exercises that include virtual and in-person components, including an opportunity to cross the stage and hear their name called. The virtual ceremony is a full commencement program that will air Saturday, with 4 ceremonies based on academic major: School of Economics and Business at 9 a.m.; School of Education, Human Ecology, and Sports Studies at 11 a.m.; School of Liberal Arts at 1 p.m.; and School of Sciences at 3 p.m.

The State DOT is advising motorists that starting today; the right lanes of US Route 11 northbound and southbound in the Town of Dickinson in Broome County will be closed for approximately 1 year to re-construct the interchange of Exit 5 on I-81. During that time, the on and off ramps of I 81 northbound at Exit 5 will both be reduced to one lane. Travelers on US 11 should expect minor to moderate delays at peak commuting times. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones.
