2 Herkimer County children who were the subject of an AMBER alert last night have been found safe, according to State Police. Alicia Seelbach turned herself in to the Utica Police Department this morning; Seelbach is scheduled to be arraigned in Herkimer County Family Court, in connection with the reported child abduction in Frankfort on April 22nd. 1-year-old Jordan Lints and 3 year old Mariah Seelbach, were found in good health last night, police had been looking for Alicia Seelbach and 25-year-old Jordan Lints. The investigation is continuing.

All 5 announced Major Party candidates for the 19th congressional district seat will participate in a forum on Tuesday at the Oneonta High School. The Otsego County Farm Bureau sponsors the forum; it will run from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. The republican candidates are John Faso, Andrew Heaney, and Bob Bishop; the democratic candidates are Zephyr Teachout, and Will Yandik. The event is free and open to the public.

Governor Cuomo today announced the members of the search committee for the next Superintendent of the New York State Police. The committee will be reviewing and recommending candidates to the Governor in the coming days. Current Superintendent Joseph D’Amico recently announced his plans to retire after 6 years of leadership with the State Police, and 35 years in law enforcement overall. Superintendent D’Amico will be in place through the transition.

State Senator Jim Seward has returned home after recent Cancer Surgery, he then announced that he is co-sponsoring legislation to aid counties in paying mandated salary increases for full time district attorneys. In the past, the state has funded the DA salary increases in the state budget; however, costs associated with recently adopted raises were not part of the governor’s 2016-17 budget proposal or the final adopted budget. Seward’s Senate bill would provide 100% state aid to counties to cover the increase in salary costs. The bill has been referred to the Senate Local Government Committee

Sidney will hold its annual Arbor Day Celebration today at the Walking Trail Pavilion beginning at 11:00. A tree dedication planting will be part of the Arbor Day activities. A limited number of White Birch Saplings will be given out as well as an opportunity to speak with members of Sidney’s Shade Tree Commission and an area conservationist and forester.

The Oxford Village Tree Board will be holding its 13th annual ” Tree City USA” Arbor Day Celebration Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at the Lafayette Park Bandstand.
