Governor Cuomo announced that green policies at state agencies saved New York taxpayers $19.6 million in the first five years, while also reducing paper use and waste and increasing recycling. A new report by the Office of General Services also found that state agencies are using green cleaning products, capturing and reusing rainwater, and generating renewable energy.

Governor Cuomo announced the Salvation Army in the City of Binghamton has broken ground on its new North Side Job Training and Support Center. The new $6 million center will create up to 40 new full-time jobs and will provide additional services to residents in need. The new center will also provide child-care and senior services.

More than 200 fire departments have signed up for the 7th annual Recruit New York weekend, according to the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. Firehouses across the State will open their doors to the public in an effort to increase membership in the volunteer fire service. Firefighters will be conducting tours of their facilities, demonstrating firefighting techniques, and allowing visitors to try on turnout gear.
