State Police arrested 27 year old Jayson Vanvalkenburg of Mount Upton for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Menacing and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Troopers responded to a dispute in the Town of Guilford, Vanvalkenburg allegedly choked the victim in front of 2 children, he was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2000 cash bail, pending court action on April 25th.

State Police arrested 36 year old Justin Shaul of Cooperstown, for DWI with a B.A.C. result of .16% along with other traffic violations. Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on East Street in the Town of Oneonta, Shaul was still with the vehicle. Shaul was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court on May 16th.

The 13th Annual Earth Festival will be held Saturday at Milford Central School from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Items that can be collected at the event include Styrofoam, empty inkjet cartridges, cell phones and other small electronics, tennis balls, wood pellet bags, and used monofilament fishing line, and natural cork from wine bottles.

State Police at Norwich arrested 56-year-old Thomas Brick of Chenango Forks, for the felony Grand Larceny and Petty Larceny. The investigation determined that in March 2016, Brick had entered into an agreement to do repair work on a residential trailer and was given a down payment of $8,000. At no time did he start the work or return the down payment to the victim. Brick was being held at the Gowanda Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge, was transported to the Chenango County Court for his arraignment. He was then transported back to that state prison. Brick’s next court date in Chenango County is pending.

Governor Cuomo announced the submission of 154 vetoes, which includes 13 reappropriations for items that had previously been fully paid out. 75 items are more than seven years old and no state funding has been disbursed over that time, 58 appropriations pertained to functions already funded, 8 appropriations were vetoed on constitutional grounds such as that the purpose of the reappropriation was changed.

The Oneonta Family YMCA is hosting the 2017 YMCA Gymnastics States Championships April 22nd and 23rd. The State Gymnastics Championships are being held at the Alumni Field House on the SUNY Oneonta campus.
