State Police executed a search warrant in the town of Solon as part of an investigation which resulted in the removal of 41 animals, including 5 goats, 2 cows, a pig, 28 chickens, 4 ducks and a cat were in need of immediate medical care. 38 year old Kyle Heller was also found to be in possession illegally of firearms because he is a convicted felon. Heller was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon, Charges related to the animals are pending as investigators are waiting for the veterinary reports. Troopers were assisted by the Susquehanna SPCA, the Cortland County SPCA and the DEC, Heller was transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for centralized arraignment. The investigation is on-going.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and a coalition of 19 other attorneys general today filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for illegally firing thousands of probationary federal workers, including hundreds in New York. In the last week of February, 372 federal workers had filed for unemployment in New York. More than 1,000 Department of Veterans Affairs employees nationwide were fired in February, including workers at VA medical centers in New York. In Buffalo and Syracuse, more than 100 Internal Revenue Service employees have been fired at the height of tax season. The coalition is seeking a court order to stop further mass layoffs without notice and the reinstatement of all illegally fired federal workers who have been laid off since January 20, 2025.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of 37 year old Joseph Scianablo of Cooperstown following an investigation in to a 2023 larceny. it was discovered that Scianablo was a level 2 sex offender, who had relocated to Florida in 2023 without making the proper notifications to the New York State Sex Offender Registry, he turned himself in Wednesday to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office on an active arrest warrant issued through the Middlefield Town Court. he was processed and was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

The State DEC announced that hunters in New York harvested an estimated 1,685 bears during the 2024 hunting season, which was 24% higher than 2023 and approximately 13% higher than the five- and 10-year averages, an estimated 1,028 bears came here in the Southern Zone.
