A Benefit is being held for Sidney native Jessica Archer Vis Sunday in Sidney, she is battling leukemia & money is needed for uncovered medical costs, travel and family lodging in the Buffalo area, for several weeks at a time, during the course of her treatment. Jeannette Peck is organizing the fundraiser Sunday:

The fundraiser will be held from 2:00 until 6:00 PM at the Elks Lodge on River Street in Sidney. Tickets are $10 in advance & $12 at the door; more information about tickets or donations is available at 337-8110.

The Inaugural season of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Double A Baseball team; begin at NYSEG Stadium next month. Team Spokesman Ed Saunders comments:

Saunders said that the team is still affiliated with the New York Meets, the home opener at NYSEG Stadium is April 13th, and the season starts on the road April 6th.

The state Education Department has scheduled public meetings around the state to prepare for the new federal education law by seeking input on a variety of issues, including whether to pilot new testing procedures. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act that replaced No Child Left Behind, it is designed to give states more flexibility in how to measure school performance.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the annual Binghamton Sty. Patrick’s Day parade, which will be held tomorrow through downtown Binghamton. The parade will start at St. Mary’s at 1:30 in downtown Binghamton and proceed along Court Street through the west end to Edwards street. A party will be held after the parade at Seton high school, until 6:00 PM.

The Tri-County Tea Party Patriots will hold a meeting tonight at the Bainbridge Town Hall. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will host a “First Friday Eat & Meet” membership breakfast this morning from 8:30 to10 AM at SUNY Delhi. The featured speaker is Michael Laliberte who was appointed as SUNY Delhi president in August. Laliberte will discuss plans for SUNY Delhi and how its career-oriented programs can benefit local businesses.

The Sidney Central School Observatory will be open tonight, from 7:00-8:30PM. featured attractions will be the waxing crescent Moon, and Mars and Venus setting in the western sky. The event is open to the public, and admission is free. Sidney High faculty and students will run this session. The Observatory is located behind the high school building.

Governor Cuomo today announced a number of new high-tech features to the New York State Veterans’ App that will improve access to state programs and services for veterans and their families. By incorporating geo-fencing, alerts can be sent to people regarding events and resources within a specific region. New York State’s official mobile apps are available at ny.gov/mobileapps.
