Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Timothy Wakefield of Smithville for Scheming to Defraud, with multiple counts of Grand Larceny, and Arson, following a nine month long investigation into a Chenango County business. Wakefield is accused of conducting numerous auctions and he allegedly had failed to pay the clients that the auctions were being held for. On December 19, 2023 while Detectives were still investigating the auction business of Wakefield, when the 911 Center received a call from Wakefield reporting a structure fire. The Office of Emergency Services ruled the fire to not be accidental. Last week, Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presented evidence to the Chenango County Grand Jury, they indicted Wakefield, he was released and will reappear at a later date in the Chenango County Court.

Martin Matias of Greene pleaded guilty in Broome County Court this week to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, On October 13, 2023, Matias was found to be in possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop conducted by the New York State Police. Matias admitted to possession with the intent to sell, he will be sentenced to 8 years in State Prison and 3 years post-release supervision when sentenced on June 27th in Broome County Court.

50 year old Kevin Harrington of Oneonta was indicted for 2 counts of mail fraud in U.S. District Court for submitting fraudulent invoices in order to receive reimbursements from the Bassett Healthcare Network, for the purchase of CPAP machines, that were not purchased. Harrington served as an executive director at First Community Care of Bassett, he could face 20 years in prison & fines up to $250,000.

State Police announced the opening of applications for the New York State Trooper Entrance Examination, Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their applications and register for the exam at joinstatepolice.ny.gov. State Police is launching another recruitment initiative designed to attract qualified individuals to its ranks. Application will be accepted until June 3rd, the final opportunity to take the Entrance Examination during this campaign will be June 10th.

This morning Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to an overturned tractor trailer on I-81 North in the Town of Barker. The investigation showed that the tractor trailer went into the median and partially overturned. No injuries were reported and all lanes have now been reopened after NYS Department of Transportation cleared the roadway.

Sidney Village crews are repairing a water main break, somewhere near West Main Street & Pearl Street this afternoon. water may be shut off on some of the surrounding streets while the repairs are going on.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 34 year old Donald Kern of Walton pleaded guilty to Aggravated Harassment, in Delaware County Court on Monday. Kern appeared for a conference on his pending indictment, he pleaded guilty to the charge, for threatening a young lady to break her car windows while she was in it, because of her race. Kern will be sentenced to serve 6 months in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, he faces sentencing on April 29th.

31 year old Edward Petti of Oneonta was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell & for Criminally Possessing Drug parapernalia. The indictments allege Petti possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 7, that he intended to sell, and that he also possessed scales or balances used to weigh controlled substances. Petti faces up to 12 years in state prison.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that Robert Clark of Endicott, was found guilty of Criminal Contempt by a Broome County Jury in Broome County Court. On December 31, 2022, Clark violated an order of protection, he will return for sentencing on June 26, where he will be sentenced to State Prison.

42 year old Davy Reyes of the Bronx was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury for Driving While Impaired by Drugs & for operating a vehicle in the Village of Walton on March 24th, with a suspended license. Reyes was previously convicted of Driving While Impaired by Drugs in 2022, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $20,000.00 cash bail.
