Firefighters from Bainbridge, Afton, Masonville & Sidney responded to the Frog Ponds Farm on State Highway 7, for a Structure fire reported at the doughnut shack. The fire was reported at about 11:25 this morning, Chenango County Fire officials reported that one victim suffered burns & was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Village of Oxford couple for active arrest warrants issued by Chenango County court Judge Frank Revoir. The arrest warrants stemmed from sealed indictments that were presented to the Chenango County Grand Jury Wednesday. 33-Year-old Robert Gallo and 29 year old Savannah Gallo were indicted for multiple counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling narcotics from their residence at 16 Merchant Street in Oxford. The couple was located at their residence following a complaint of hypodermic needles being located in front of home; they were taken into custody with assistance from State Police, they were processed at the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office & were remanded to the Chenango County Jail pending arraignment in Chenango County Court shortly.

State Police at Norwich arrested 25 year old Emily Ashman of Binghamton, for felony grand larceny, after troopers were advised of a theft of credit card from a home in Oxford in February 2015. Ashman allegedly stole the credit card, while a guest there, & used the stolen credit card to buy over $1000 worth of merchandise from several different stores. Ashman was arraigned in the Town of Oxford court and was remanded to the Chenango County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond pending future court action.

State Senator John Bonacic announced that he has secured a $50,000 grant for the Village of Walton to help stabilize the slope on Townsend Street in the Village. The funding was secured through the State Municipal Grant Program, which was included in the Fiscal year 2015-2016. Last year, a thunderstorm caused rushing water to discharge over the edge of the roadway, eroding the adjacent slope, which encroached upon the roadway, to the point that the soil supporting the guardrail posts are gone. This erosion has caused a safety issue along Townsend Street, where over 3,000 vehicles travel along that street Daily.

Governor Cuomo today announced a 6-step plan to combat the transmission of the Zika Virus. State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker explains:

The plan calls for distributing larvicide tablets to residents in the potentially Zika affected area, providing Zika protection kits to pregnant women, launching a statewide public awareness campaign, and assembling a rapid response team in the event of confirmed infection by an Aedes mosquito. The type of Aedes mosquito that is active in New York is not yet confirmed to be able to transmit the Zika virus, but the possibility remains.

A New York state missing vulnerable adult alert has been issued out of Tompkins county, 81 year old David Sprague has been reported missing, since Thursday afternoon. He is described as white male, 5’11”, 157 pounds, he was last seen at about 2:30 PM Thursday in Ithaca, driving a brown Buick Lacrosse with license plate number 182-ACL. Sprague suffers from dementia and has medical issues, anyone with information is asked to call 272-2444 or 911.
