Chenango County Public Health confirmed the 53rd COVID related death today. Chenango County reported 7 new COVID positive tests with 66 active cases, 184 quarantines, they have 9 Active Hospitalizations, with 2195 Recoveries, and they have conducted almost 80,000 tests.

The State Department of Taxation and Finance today announced that registration for free virtual tax filing assistance sessions is now open. Officials said that if your federal adjusted gross income in 2020 was $72,000 or less, you qualify to receive free virtual tax assistance from the Tax Department. Binghamton Rumble Ponies & the New York Mets announced the 2021 coaching staff today. The manager will be Lorenzo Bundy, who was scheduled to take the reins in 2020, but due to the cancellation of the season, never got the opportunity. Bundy will be joined by pitching coach, Jonathan Hurst, trainer Kiyoshi Tada, Hitting Coach Bruce Fields and Performance Coach Dylan Cintula. The Rumble Ponies season starts May 8th, the home opener at NYSEG Stadium will be on May 11th.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker testified virtually for State lawmakers for 5 hours Thursday, regarding the state’s accounting of Nursing Home Deaths during the early days of the pandemic last year, He repeated that he would make the same decisions again, based on the facts that he had about COVID at that time:

Zucker has said that deaths of nursing home residents were categorized by the location of death, many of those were in hospitals and not in nursing homes. The numbers have since been changed to categorize those who lived in a nursing home but died of COVID in a hospital, as a Nursing home Death, following an investigation by Attorney General Letitia James.

The Town of Masonville Town Board Meeting originally scheduled for March 3rd has been postponed; the meeting is being moved to March 10th, at 7:30 PM at the Masonville Town Hall.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 49-year-old Kenneth Drumm of Waverly, following the execution of a search warrant in Windsor yesterday. Drumm was charged with multiple counts of criminal sale & criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia & Criminal possession of a weapon. Police seized crystal meth, a loaded shotgun, digital scales, and packaging materials used for weighing and packaging narcotics for sale. Drumm was being held at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility pending court action.

Governor Cuomo announced that 12 community-based pop-up vaccination sites are being set up around the state, with an expectation to vaccinate over 3700 people throughout the week. The Southern Tier vaccination site will be at the American Civic Association, 131 Front Street in Binghamton today from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Delaware County Public Health reported 11 new COVID 19 cases Thursday, out of 313 tested. Hospitalizations are at 11, active cases at 102 and quarantines are at 227, Delaware County has administered 715 COVID Vaccines.

SUNY Oneonta has placed all of its athletic programs on pause following a recent increase in COVID-19 cases. Team activity and practices are suspended until at least March 3, in which school officials will reassess the situation and make a determination on when to resume. Otsego County Health Department reported 12 new cases on the Oneonta campus earlier this week.
