U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is the chairperson of the Senate Armed Services Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee, she announced 5 provisions of her legislation to protect service members from traumatic brain injuries, included in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the Senate this week:

Gillibrand introduced the Act following a disturbing report showing that service members are sustaining crippling traumatic brain injuries as a result of repeated exposure to explosions from their own weapons and explosives, which is known as blast overpressure. The bill heads to President Biden’s desk for approval.

Law Enforcement agencies are alerting consumers of the latest scam called “brushing.” The scam involves receiving a package that you did not order with no return address, which means that your personal information may have been compromised, potentially affecting your digital footprint. If you receive a package that you didn’t order, notify the retailer, and officials recommend changing your passwords and reviewing your bank statements for any signs of fraud, if there is a QR code on the package, do not scan it.

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo filed a legal notice that he intends to sue Charlotte Bennett, who accused him of sexual harassment. Bennett sued Cuomo in State & Federal Court, but last week dropped the federal lawsuit. Cuomo resigned in 2021 after a report from the state attorney general found he sexually harassed at least 11 women. Cuomo is now seeking compensatory and punitive damages, Bennett’s lawsuit in state court is ongoing.

Effective January 1, 2025, the sale or offering for sale of any new apparel containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFAS as intentionally added chemicals will be prohibited in New York State. Apparel covered by the law includes clothing items intended for regular wear or formal occasions including, undergarments, shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, overalls, onesies, bibs, and diapers, more information is available at dec.ny.gov.
