The Unatego school district was forced to change tonight’s performance of the 15th annual student & faculty variety show to Friday march 15th at the junior senior high school in wells bridge.  Tickets for tonight’s postponed show will be honored at tomorrow nights show or at the show on march 15th.  Money raised is going to help 3 area families with large medical expenses.

A local broadband expansion project will receive state funds through the Connect NY Broadband Grant Program.  The Otsego County Wireless Network project will get $558,940 to bring wireless broadband to the county’s 24 towns, 9 villages and the city of Oneonta.  The connection will serve approximately 28,000 households, 4,500 businesses and 300 community anchor institution locations.

State Troopers arrested 49-year-old Donald MacKenzie of Smithville Flats for False Personation and 2nd degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on Main Street in Whitney Point; MacKenzie was arraigned in the Town of Triangle Court and released on his own recognizance.

The Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation raised over $132,000 during their recent annual campaign, the fundraising campaign along with planned giving and the annual golf tournament; the Foundation raised a total of $185,360. Last year’s gift help renovate the interior of the old Medical Arts Building, Previous efforts helped to modernizing the in-patient and maternity units, purchased equipment for the Operating room and the Heart Center and purchased the vehicle to transport nursing home residents.  More information about the foundation is available at uhs.net.

The Otsego county sheriff’s department arrested 52 year old Timothy Gregory of Unadilla on 2 counts of 3rd degree criminal sale of marijuana & criminal possession of marijuana, also charged were 54 year old Deborah Gregory of Unadilla, 53 year old Tracy Nichols of Unadilla & 22 year old Alexander Zienkker of Otego for criminal possession of marijuana.  The arrests follow an investigation by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, DEA special agents, Oneonta Police Department, and SUNY Oneonta police.  Police seized 2 ½ pounds of processed marijuana valued at $7,500, a digital scale and $520 in cash. All 4  face court action shortly.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 56-year-old Joseph Desilva of Laurens for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC result of .17%.   Desilva was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Laurens Court on March 14th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 17 year old Bovina male and a 17 year old Delhi Male for 2 counts each of 2nd degree Burglary, 1 count each of 4th degree Grand Larceny and 1 count each of Petty Larceny.   These charges stem from an on going investigation into burglaries in the Town of Bovina.  Both were arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and released on their own recognizance to re-appear on March 19th.

New York State’s economy added 29,600 jobs in January, breaking a record with 17 consecutive months of private sector jobs added, according to the State Labor Department.  Between December and January, the State’s unemployment rate rose from 8.2% to 8.4%, with the Upstate counties rate increasing by 1 tenth to 7.9%.  Areas with the biggest job losses included Binghamton, Utica & Rome.

Governor Cuomo is urging the USDA to choose New York State to implement the strained Greek yogurt pilot program.  In January, the USDA announced that it would begin a pilot program to test the cost-effectiveness of including Greek yogurt in school meal programs. The state has become the nation’s leader in strained Greek yogurt production with plants such as Chobani, the plants have more than doubled in number and production, and milk production grew by nearly 850 million pounds. The USDA pilot program would be part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, which provides meals in public and private schools.

The State Assembly passed a 2-year ban on hydrofracking by a vote of 103 to 40 yesterday.  The bill passed Wednesday has no companion legislation in the New York State Senate, making this bill unlikely to make it to the governor’s desk, the senate does have legislation calling for a ban only until the department of Health Review is completed.

The Broome County Sheriff’s department arrested 42-year-old Jeffrey Turner of Fenton for allegedly performing sexual acts with a 14-year-old girl and forced her to perform in pornographic photos.  Turner was indicted in US District court on federal court Wednesday on 8 counts of production of child pornography and one count of accessing with intent to view and possession of child pornography,

State Troopers arrested 32-year-old William Hunter of Ithaca for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 17 in Hancock; Hunter was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Hancock Court on March 25th.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 55-year-old Anthony Miller of Pharsalia for 3 counts of endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Miller is accused of committing an act that would be injurious to 3 children at his residence; he was arraigned in the Town of Plymouth court and is being held on $5,000 cash bail.  Miller is scheduled to appear in the Town of Pharsalia Court at a later date.

P.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 3-6-13

State Police arrested 18-year-old Eric Green in Albany; he was taken into custody without incident.  Green was charged with 1st degree Aggravated assault on a police officer, and 1st degree Robbery he was arraigned this morning on the original charges, the investigation is continuing & more charges are anticipated.  Green is accused of stabbing Trooper Rodney Smith in the neck at the Empire State Plaza Sunday, after asking for directions.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 24-year-old Dale Thompson on an active Bench Warrant issued out of the Village of Sherburne Court for failure to pay fines.  Thompson was previously charged for with criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, and 2nd degree harassment, he was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance after paying his fines.

State Police at Sidney arrested 26-year-old Gregory Flanagan of Sidney for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 7 in Unadilla; Flanagan was issued an Appearance Ticket for Town of Unadilla Court on March 11th.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Talon Taltavall of Hamilton, on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Sherburne Court, for a violation of probation or conditional discharge.   Taltavall was arrested in the Town of Norwich; he was arraigned in the Town of Sherburne Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on $1,000.00 cash bail. Taltavall is scheduled to appear back in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 47-year-old Rafael Macken of Walton following a 1-car accident on County Highway 14 in the Town of Franklin.  Macken was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, 2nd & 3rd Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Failure to Keep Right.  Deputies recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun, a silencer, a switchblade and metal knuckle knives, a number of controlled substances and marihuana, Macken was arraigned in the Town of Franklin Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $25,000 bail bond.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 27-year-old Lewis Ostrander of Hancock, as a Fugitive from Justice Warrant from Honesdale Pennsylvania on a Forgery charge. Ostrander was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail to await extradition back to Pennsylvania.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Stephanie Worthington of Delhi for 3rd degree Grand Larceny.    Worthington was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail. Felony hearing is scheduled for March 11th.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 49-Year-old David Pallik of Downsville for DWI with a BAC result of 0.16%, which is twice the legal limit.  The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 28 in Oneonta; Pallik was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court on March 19th.

The Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man who stabbed Trooper Rodney Smith at the empire state plaza in Albany Sunday.  Trooper smith was approached by a man seeking directions, before stabbing him in the neck.  Trooper smith is recovering at Albany Medical Center; Police are looking for 18-year-old Eric Green as a person of interest,

A private family funeral was held today in Norwich for 36-year-old Jennifer Ramsaran of New Berlin, who was reported missing in December and whose body was found in the town of Pharsalia last week. Ramsaran will be buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in the town of Norwich, the cause of her death has not been determined, the investigation is continuing.

Governor Cuomo announced that the state DMV has investigated 13,000 possible cases of identity fraud since facial recognition technology was implemented three years ago. These investigations have resulted in more than 2,500 arrests and more than 5,000 individuals facing administrative action.  Research showed that about 50% of the subjects identified had one valid license while having a second record that was suspended or revoked, 20% of the subjects had suspended or revoked licenses, 30% of the subjects had multiple valid licenses.

State senate republicans are forwarding the 2013 Family Tax Relief Act, to assist the struggling families upstate, area state senator Jim Seward comments:

Seward said that the plan will update tax credits and exemptions, some more than 25 years old, would more than double the value of the Dependent Exemption; increase the Child Tax Credit and provide an additional $500 child tax credit; increase the value of the Dependent Care Credit; and restore STAR property tax rebate checks.

State Troopers arrested 40-year-old Rhonda Butler of Endicott for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 17C, Butler was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Governor Cuomo announced $285,000 in available funding for the third year of the Governor’s “Fresh Connect” program, which brings fresh food from New York farms to underserved communities throughout the state. The Fresh Connect program provided viable market locations for over 100 farmers, which helped, increase the sale of locally grown food. 8th grader Molly Youngs of Sidney won The Daily Star 2013 Regional Spelling Bee in Oneonta Saturday beating out over 20 other contestants.  Molly told WCDO news that she is a little bit nervous, but is looking forward to her trip to Washington DC to compete in the National Spelling Bee:

Molly and her parents will travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 28th through May 30th, and it will be televised on ESPN.
